Ink inscription on front pastedown states "Moray… Brown, Ensign 79th Highlanders Retired as Lieutenant 1884". James Moray Brown served in India with the 79th Cameron Highlanders and wrote several books on sporting topics during the late 1880s and 1890s eg. "I Was A Tiger Hunter." He has a brief bio in the alphabetical officers' listings section p. 211. News clippings pasted to front pages describe the Highlanders in Egypt and the regiment's centenary celebration.
