Illustrated with a black and white mapo (15 x 17") scale 1" = 4 miles, plus six black and white captioned photos and two black and white drawings. The balance of the space between photos and map consists of narrative on various topics: fire protection, geology, flora and fauna, forest fires, fire history, American Indians, automobile campgrounds, fishing, accommodations, hiking and mountain climbing, saddle-horse trips, tours by bus and launch, popular trails, swimming, camping out, and the like. The outermost panel has a drawing of the head of a mountain goat. In near fine condition with no separations at the folds, a bit of soiling on the outermost panel, else near fine to fine with no markings. "Revised December 1938" printed on the map. Map shows trails, rivers, railroads, highways, lakes, mountains, falls, national Florests, india reservations, and the like. Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. v, 246 pp. 4to. Green cloth boards with gold embossed design and titling to spine. Minor scuffing overall from shelf wear, ownership label at head for front cover board, clean and crisp within. Laid in is a typed letter, signed by Albert H. Good on behalf of Conrad L. Wirth, then Assistant Director of the National Park Service (and future Director) to Fay Welch at the New York State College of Forestry in Syracuse, New York. Albert Good would go on to author the three-volume expansion of this work, "Park and Recreation Structures" publsihed in 1938. The original title that began to set the design standards for what we now view as "Park Service Architecture." Everything from sign standards to amphitheater design, welcome centers, picnic tables, and rustic chandeliers. Includes hundreds of photographic examples as well as measured drawings. This edition was expanded to a three volume publication in 1938 entitled "Park and Recreational Structures." Volume draws on both National Park examples as well as state and regional park facilities. Produced in a limited edition of 2,250 copies, this being copy #1186.
