Collated, complete.A charming series of letters sent from Edward John Trelawny, a British biographer, novelist and adventurer who is also best known for his acquaintances with Percy Shelley and Lord Byron. The editor of this work, Harry Buxton Forman, was a Victorian-era bibliographer who specialised particularly in works on Percy Shelley, hence this publication of letters in which several are addressed to Mary Shelley.Controversially, Forman was revealed in 1934 to have been in a conspiracy to supply large quantities of forged first editions of Georgian and Victorian authors. It took forty years until the fraud was discovered by John Carter. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. In den WarenkorbOctavo, two volumes, pp., lv, 292; 293-607, plus tissue-guarded frontispieces. Publisher's unclipped cream dust-jackets. Publisher's red cloth, titles to paper spine labels. Spine-panel of jackets sunned, very light scattered spotting and soiling to upper panels. Damp to upper edges of cloth, otherwise clean and neat. Scattered foxing to edges of text-block, continuing to select leaves. A solid, square set in very good jacket. Keats' letters were first partially published in 1878, edited by Harry Buxton Forman (1842-1917). Forman then edited the standard edition of the letters for Keats' centenary in 1895, which was republished in 1901. As described in the preface, this volume (compiled by Buxton Forman's son, Maurice), is largely derived from volumes three and five of that 1901 edition, which contains the bulk of the correspondence to Fanny Brawne (1800-65). This edition published, for the first time, additional correspondence to the poet's brothers, George and Tom, and a previously unseen letter to the wine merchant and coffee-man Richard Woodhouse (1760-1833).
