A collection of works by seventeenth-century English poet and satirist, Samuel Butler, who is best remembered for his long satirical poem, 'Hudibras', which is present in this collection. Five volumes, comprised of the following:'Hudibras' (1819), a new edition, complete in three volumes. Originally written between 1660 and 1680, this mock-heroic poem satirises the Presbyterian church and Cromwellians, set just before the restoration of Charles II as King. Written from the perspective of an strong Anglican and supporter of the Royals. Illustrated with eight plates, including a frontispiece to each volume, four plates to volume I and one plate to volume II. Collated, complete. 'The Genuine Poetical Remains of Samuel Butler', (1827), with notes by Robert Thyer. First thus.
