Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Offering a bold intervention in the ongoing debate about the relationship between 'theology' and 'science', Theology, Science and Life proposes that the strong demarcation between the two spheres is unsustainable; theology occurs within and not outside what we call 'science', and 'science' occurs within and not outside theology. The book applies this in a penetrating way to the most topical, contentious and philosophically charged science of late modernity: biology. Rejecting the easy dualism of expressions such as 'theology and science', 'theology or science', modern biology is examined so as to illuminate the nature of both.In making this argument, the book achieves two further things. It is the first major English-language reception and application of the thought of philosopher Hans Jonas in theology, and it makes a decisive contribution to the unfolding reception of 'Radical Orthodoxy', one of the most influential schools in contemporary Anglophone theology.

New edition, corrected and enlarged. A large paper subscriber's copy of Samuel Butler's 'Hudibras', with notes by Zachary Grey (Dr. Grey), an English priest, controversialist and conservative spokesman for the Church of England. The poem enjoyed a long history of consistent publication and popularity, understandably liked among adherents of Jacobitism, including one of the main leaders of the 1745 rising. This edition from Dr. Grey features a vast array of notes fuelled by his elaborate background knowledge of the Civil War. However, this edition engendered a new quarrel.William Warburtonhad supplied some notes for the edition to a mutual friend, and Warburton claimed that the notes were used without explicit permission, and Warburton said that the edition was an "execrable heap of nonsense."This copy bound as such:Volume I Part I - With an engraved title plate and one additional plate.Volume I Part II - Sixteen pages of 'Translations of Hudibras' dated December 1818 preceding the continuation of the poem.
