Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good-. No Dust Jacket. Library stamps/marks/labels/pocket, slip, otherwise light wear. Solid hardcover.; Facsimile reprint of three works, originally published in 1905, 1814, and 1815, respectively: War Inconsistent with the Religion of Jesus Christ, by David low Dodge, with an intrododuction by Edwin D.… Mead; The Lawfulness of War for Christians, examined, by James Mott; A Solemn Review of the Custom of War, by Noah Worcester. "Influenced to some extent by the ideas of the eighteenth-century Enlightenment; Dodge and Worcester made use of the utilitarian case against war alongside religious arguments (though neither they nor other early nineteenth-century advocates of peace penetrated very deeply into the economic causes of conflict). They were divided, however, concerning the limits of pacifism." - new introduction by Peter Brock. ; The Garland Library of War and Peace; Ex-Library; 11, xx, 168, 33, 23 pages.

In den WarenkorbRare large Official White House color photograph of President Ronald Reagan and his cabinet, signed by Reagan, Vice President George H.W. Bush, and each of Reagan's eighteen first-term cabinet members. The group portrait, taken by a White House photographer, shows Reagan at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office surrounded by his…vice president and the members of his first-term cabinet, each of whom has signed in the blank lower margin near his or her portrait. Those signing are President Ronald Reagan, Vice President George H.W. Bush, Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig, Secretary of the Treasury Donald T. Regan, Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger, Attorney General William French Smith, Secretary of the Interior James G. Watt, Secretary of Agriculture John R. Block, Secretary of Commerce Malcolm Baldrige, Secretary of Labor Raymond J. Donovan, Secretary of Health and Human Services Richard S. Schweiker, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Samuel R. Pierce, Secretary of Transportation Drew Lewis, Secretary of Energy James B. Edwards, Secretary of Education Terrel H. Bell, Budget Director David Stockman, United Nations Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick, Counselor to the President Edwin Meese, Trade Representative William Brock, and Director of Central Intelligence William Casey. In fine condition. The photograph measures 19.25 by 23.25 inches with the photographerâs ink stamp on the verso reading âOfficial Photograph, The White House.â Triple matted and framed. The entire piece measures 29 inches by 26 inches. A remarkable record of the dawn of the Reagan administration, uniting the signatures of the president and his entire first cabinet on an official White House image. Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), the fortieth President of the United States, took office in January 1981 and assembled a cabinet that would guide one of the most consequential presidencies of the twentieth century. His first term brought sweeping tax cuts, a vast military buildup, and a hardening stance toward the Soviet Union, and his team included such influential figures as Secretary of State Alexander Haig, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, Budget Director David Stockman, and Director of Central Intelligence William Casey. Vice President George H.W. Bush would himself be elected to the White House in 1989. A signed group portrait bringing together an entire presidential cabinet is a great rarity, and this example preserves the founding team of the Reagan era complete.
