SIR COLIN ANDERSON'S COPY. ALS FROM BLAKISTON TO ANDERSON LAID IN. Cyril Connolly and Noel Blakiston were at Eton together, and they maintained a regular correspondence while at Oxford and Cambridge respectively. After his death in 1974, Connolly's letters to Blakiston were published in this volume. Sir Colin Anderson was a shipping magnate and lifelong patron of the arts: Chairman of the Tate Gallery from 1960 to 1967, Director of the Royal Opera House, Trustee of the National Gallery and Provost of the Royal College of Art. In his letter dated 9 January 1976, laid in to the book, Blakiston writes to Anderson to thank him for his 'kind letter with its appreciation of Cyril's remarkable epistolary gift to me. [.] The reviewers, all but two or three, have been most favourable, and some have suggested that this is Cyril's best book.' The retention of one of those reviews has caused some offsetting to the book's front endpapers but this remains a very good copy, with an association to match.…
