In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 1st Edition. 32 superb nude figure studies by three London based photographers. 40 paginated pages : 32 illustrations ; 187 mm. First edition, second printing, "December 1941" t.p. verso. Illustrated boards in illustrated, unclipped, dust jacket. Dust jacket with small losses and some closed tears to edges, boards underneath very good, no inscriptions. A contemporary review of this book: 'The photographer who wishes to make a picture that possesses an intrinsic worth must have the vital, elusive flame of innate artistic perception within him. It is not enough for him merely to possess a technical mastery of his instruments any more than a competent artist can become great who lacks the sixth sense of form that stamps a genius. The plates in this book show some of the most famous models in Europe. Not only do they each possess a face and figure which are expressive and photograph well, but they have the intelligence to co-operate with the photographer in producing the effect striven after. Only by this partnership between artist and model can a photographic masterpiece be produced. A painter can work with an indifferent model, because his eye comes! between the painting and the sitter. The lens of the camera has no interpretative power, and hence the photographer must of necessity impose greater control upon the model.' Quote from Anon feature in The Naturist, February 1942, pp. 48-49. Photographs available on request. All books dispatched same or next working day in robust packaging.

Two scarce issues of short-lived Philadelphia literary magazine in the same vein as Harlem's FIRE!! Features work by Harlem Renaissance luminaries such as Jessie Fauset and Gwendolyn B. Bennettt, paired with lesser known young black authors from local public schools and nearby universities. Originally intended as an outlet for young black writers, it was seen as a way for older established authors to encourage and foster younger talent, with a slogan of "Hail Negro Youth," and a list of editorial staff and contributors being a veritable who's who of the Harlem Renaissance--Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Alain Locke and Arthur Huff Fauset. The June issue also includes a review of Nella Larsen's recently published novel Quicksand. Quite scarce.
