I vividly remember buying this book and many others at an estate sale of a noble family s palazzo on the banks of the Tiber in Rome in 1978. And what a library it was! Please find: Italian Castles and Country Seats by Tryphosa Bates Batcheller. This largish hard cover book (7 x 10 x 2 inches, 512 pages, some of them uncut) was published by Longmans, Green, and Co. of London, New York, Bombay, and Calcutta, dated 1911 and a First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in dark green cloth with elaborate gilt titles and decorations on cover and spine. It is inscribed by the Author to the former owner, the Princess Giustiniani-Bandini. It is lavishly illustrated throughout with 87 illustrations including photos, tissue-guarded photogravures and color photos (just a few). Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are quite handsome and attractive despite some minor bumping to the corners and spine tips. There are small blemishes to the finish both front & rear but nothing extreme. Inside, there is a label from the former owners and an inscription to the Princess on the half-title page. The interior pages and many plates are clean and bright and as mentioned, some of then are uncut so the book has never been fully read. Both hinges are intact but the binding is cracked elsewhere; despite that it still seems sound and strong. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Inscribed by Author.…
