Dexter, pasted over bookplate of William H. Eliot, to front pastedown. Moderate toning to interior, very light foxing in a few places. Bancroft was a historian, statesman and politician who served as secretary of the Navy and held several diplomatic positions in addition to translating and authoring a number of important works. Although Dr. Charles Amory, M.D. [1808-1898] graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1832, he did not practice medicine and instead became a prominent Boston manufacturer and merchant.
