In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Good. First Edition. Publication: London, Stanley Paul & Co., 1912 Formatting: 8vo, pp. [vi], 308. Condition Report: Good. The binding remains sound, though the olive green cloth boards exhibit standard age-related wear, including rubbing to the extremities, minor bumping to the corners, and slight fraying at the spine ends. The front board retains its black blocked panels and lettering, though the gilt has lightly dulled over time. The text block is generally tight; however, the untrimmed bottom edges display characteristic creasing and curling to the corners of the leaves. Internally, the pages are toned with scattered foxing, most notably to the title page and preliminary leaves, but remain largely clean and entirely readable. Catalogue Note: First English Edition. This copy features a colour frontispiece illustration. A standard previous owner's signature is present on the front free endpaper. While American editions (such as those by H.K. Fly and A.L. Burt) appear with some frequency on the secondary market, this true first UK edition by Stanley Paul & Co. is scarce and seldom encountered in commerce. A classic comedic mystery of the early twentieth century,ÂOfficer 666 follows the wealthy, bored Travers Gladwin as he discovers a plot to rob his own home. Rather than calling the police, Gladwin borrows a uniform, assumes the identity of 'Officer 666,' and attempts to catch the art thief red-handed. The ensuing farce of mistaken identities and romantic entanglements made the story a massive theatrical hit and inspired multiple early film adaptations. N/A (illustrator).…
