Le Roman d'Alexandre est l'un des plus anciens romans français - le plus ancien même sous sa forme primitive. Il relate les conquêtes d'Alexandre le Grand, mais aussi son histoire fabuleuse telle qu'elle avait pris forme dans l'Antiquité tardive. Il se présente avant tout comme un roman d'aventures dans un décor oriental peuplé de merveilles : palais somptueux, enchantements, amazones, sirènes, filles-fleurs qui naissent de la terre au printemps, fontaine de jouvence. Alexandre lui-même y figure comme le modèle de toute chevalerie, image qui sera la sienne pendant tout le Moyen Age. La longueur de l'uvre interdisait d'en donner l'intégralité. On a sacrifié l'épisode un peu adventice et purement militaire du fuerre de Gadres , qui ne représente au demeurant que 3 000 vers environ sur les 16 000 que compte le roman d'Alexandre de Paris - des vers de douze pieds qui recevront en son honneur le nom d'alexandrins, ce qui est en soi la preuve de son succès. The present City Hall in Paris retains the exterior style of the original, but has a completely different floor plan internally. Il barone Fleury de Chaboulon, repubblicano volontario sedicenne nella Guardia Nazionale e decorato della Campagna di Francia, fu uomo politico di provata fede bonapartista: nel 1815 raggiunse Napoleone all'Elba e ne divenne Segretario Particolare; costretto all'esilio dopo Waterloo si rifugiò a Londra, dove pubblicò queste memorie dapprima per John Murray (1819) e subito dopo in questa edizione stampata per Longman Hurst da A. Strahan. Dettagliatissime e ricche di notizie tanto politiche quanto private sull'imperatore e i suoi contemporanei, queste memorie furono lette a Sant'Elena da Napoleone, che trovandole troppo rivelatrici censurò e annotò diffusamente la propria copia. «Ces mémoires sont une source importante pour l'histoire du retour de l'Ile d'Elbe et des Cent-Jours, et décrivent abondamment les intrigues autour de l'Empereur, notanment celles de Fouché» (Bertier de Sauvigny - Fierro, Bibliographie critique des mémoires sur la Restauration écrits ou traduits en français, 414). L (Mecklembourgeois) / Fondateur de l'Institution Biblique Stéréotype / de Paris / Membre . . . / . . . / à Paris le 20 Juin 1813.'' --- Lutheran Pastor Frédéric Léo from Mecklenburg-Germany was sent as 'pastor-suffragan' of the Lutheran Consistory to Paris in 1811 to spread the protestant view of christianity in the catholic heart of France, and with the support of Frederic Louis Crownprince of Mecklenburg - to whom he dedicated this particular bibliophile copy - raised funds for the massprint of bibles (not only) from the crownprince's former brother-in-law Tsar Alexander I., who himself founded of the 'Bible Society of Russia'. Together with the famous french printer Firmin Didot, who perfectionized the stereotype-printing process to produce a very large number of pages from 1 plate in lasting good quality and economically successful, Léo started the mass-production of Ostervald's New Testament in 1813 which in quality and number by far exceeded earlier stereotype bible-editions in Germany (Canstein/Halle) and England (Stanhope/Cambridge), although not many seem to have survived resp. can be found in trade. This was the initial moment for the mass-production and wide-spread of printed bibles, affordable for 'everyone'. Encouraged by his success in 1816 Léo also initiated a 'Catholic Society for the Distribution of the New Testament' to publish an edition according to the version of Sacy until his 'Institution Biblique Stéréotype' was shut down by the Vatican's condemnation of Bible Societies in 1825. Dans sa notice sur Leprévost, Théodore Nisard ne donne que deux oratorios, créés en 1843 et 1844. Le mardi saint, 14 avril 1843, fut ainsi exécuté Les Croisés au Saint-Sépulcre (opus 69) salle Herz (signalé par Frank Reinisch dans Das französische Oratorium von 1840 bis 1870, p.442). On notera que Tagliofico n'avait pas encore commencé sa carrière. Si son premier oratorio était dramatique, son second (1844) sera fantastique et sur des paroles de Marceline Desbordes-Valmore. Le destinataire et Leprévost ne se seront donc pas entendus. Rare autographe. [504].
