After providing an overview of such instruments in India and the Netherlands, the authors present three case studies that provide detailed insights into how these instruments work in actual practice. The industries covered are textiles, cement, and fertilizers. The authors conclude from the data that the choice of the "optimal" instrument is largely influenced by economic, social, and environmental circumstances that difference between countries and from industry to industry. Their comparison of existing policies reveals the similarities and differences between the two countries. In conclusion, the book offers a number of suggestions for improvements in policy instruments aimed at preventing and abating pollution in both countries. In particular, the authors emphasize the possible role of economic instruments that they compare to a choice of instruments already in practice. Dass all das, was sie so trieben, in irgendwelchen Werken namens Edda steht, dürfte zumindest den versierteren Kreuzworträtsel-Lösern noch bekannt sein. Wie sich diese Geschichten aber tatsächlich anhören, erzählt uns der norwegische Autor Tor Åge Bringsværd in seinem Buch Die wilden Götter. Dabei verlässt er die Versform seiner Vorlagen und entwickelt aus den zyklischen Einzelerzählungen -- ganz in der Tradition isländischer Dichtung -- seine eigene Prosaversion einer fortlaufenden nordischen Göttergeschichte. In leichtem, bisweilen fast flapsigem Tonfall zieht uns der gelernte Religionswissenschaftler immer weiter in den Bann seiner Gestalten. Wir begleiten den grüblerischen Göttervater Odin auf seinem Weg gegen eigenes Unwissen, bei hoffnungslosen Bändigungsversuchen seiner unberechenbaren Familienschar und in den Kampf gegen die bedrohlichen Trolle. Wir begegnen seinem kriegerischen Sohn Thor beim Hammerschwingen und in Frauenkleidern, verfolgen atemlos die zahlreichen Abenteuer des schalkhaften, aber auch tückischen Loki und die Ränke der verführerischen Freia. Wir sind zu Gast bei furchtbaren Riesen, bei sehr kunstfertigen, aber gierigen Zwergen und werden mit entsetzlichen Ungeheuern konfrontiert. Aus dieser Mischung ergibt sich eine unterhaltsame, bisweilen komische, immer jedoch spannende Lektüre, die von allem ideologischen Ballast der jüngeren Vergangenheit befreit ist. Ein kommentiertes Namensregister im Anhang hilft beim Hangeln durch den -- in jeder Mythologie sehr dichten -- Namensdschungel, ein kluges Nachwort der Übersetzerin umreißt die Entstehungs- und Überlieferungsgeschichte dieser wilden Göttersaga. Die aufwändig hergestellte, von Johannes Grützke behutsam illustrierte Ausgabe im Rahmen der Anderen Bibliothek vervollständigt letztendlich den Eindruck eines rundum schönen Buches. Die Nacherzählung der Göttermythen aus der "Edda" des norwegischen Schriftstellers Tor Age Bringsvaerd geht in zweifacher Hinsicht über das Original hinaus, so Hermann WallmannZum einen schreibe der Autor keine Nachdichtung, sondern lege eine "prosaische Version" vor, zum anderen gehe er mit dem Epos frei um, womit er sich von philologischer Genauigkeit löse. Der Rezensent bedauert, dass einige frühere Romane von Bringsvaerd vergriffen bzw. aufgrund des Desinteresses der Verlage gar nicht erst auf deutsch erschienen sind. Er lobt den Anspruch des Autors auf "Destabilisationsliteratur", die in den früheren Romanen ganz deutlich zu Tage trete. Das Nachwort verweist, so Wallmann, auf die Rezeptionsgeschichte der norwegischen Göttermythen, die wie die Herausgeberin Tanaquil Enzensberger schreibt, von Wagner umgedeutet wurden und auch von neofaschistischen Strömungen instrumentalisiert wurden. In seiner positiven Besprechung des Buches verweist Wallmann beharrlich auf eine "postmoderne Paraphrase" der nordischen SchöpfungsepenAuf H.C. Artmanns 1982 erschienenes Buch "Die Sonne war ein grünes Ei, Von der Erschaffung der Welt und ihren Dingen". Wolfgang Müllers Rezension hat eine Vorgeschichteder Island-Experte der taz ersteigerte bei einem Berliner Antiquar ein vergilbtes Exemplar der ersten deutschen "Edda"-Übersetzung aus dem Isländischen, die von einem gewissen Jacob Schimmelmann stammte und ein "abstrus-wirres Machwerk" war, weil er u.a. das gute Stück von dem Vorwurf der Unchristlichkeit befreien musste. Müller berichtet auch von den nachfolgenden Übersetzungen, die mal mehr und mal weniger das Germanentum in den Vordergrund stellten. Von der Vereinnahmung durch die Nazis habe sich das Werk bis heute nicht erholt, stellt Müller fest, weshalb er die Neuerzählung des altisländischen Mythenstoffes besonders begrüßt, die den eigentlichen Anlass zu diesem Artikel gibtfrisch, lebendig, klar verflechte der norwegische Autor Bringsvaerd die komplizierten Erzählstränge der "Edda" mit ihren aberwitzigen Metamorphosen.
