After and introduction by the French chef, restaurateur and author Xavier Marcel Boulestin (1878-1943), there are essays on the Cook and the Mistress and Polite wine Drinking. These are followed by a Gastronomic Calendar, Luncheon Menus, Dinner Menus, and a large number of recipes. There is an index of recipes, with translations from the French, at the end of the book. The book is bound in the original black cloth covered boards with orange titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the boards. There are a few white scrapes to the cloth near the top edge of the front board and the spine ends are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the free endpapers and the half-title page. There is no inscription.…

With a title page decoration and eight illustrations by Eric Fraser (identified only by his initials to certain drawings). The staples rusted and partially defective, and with just a touch of wear and soiling to the rear wrapper. A very good copy of an uncommon item. Alec Henry Adair (1901-56) was a cookery writer, and life partner of the restaurateur Marcel Boulestin, himself the author of a series of seminal cookery books that popularised French cuisine in the English-speaking world (Adair translated them into English).
