Sin embargo, destaca en este poemario un largo verso con que se abren sus páginas: un emotivo recorrido por la naturaleza, la geografía, la historia y las contradicciones sociales y culturales de Chile, su país natal, pero expresado desde la mirada de un extranjero, haciendo hincapié en sus orígenes, elemento crucial y compartido con sus hijos que han emigrado y a quienes están dirigidas estas notables páginas. En este poema resuenan claramente las melodías de Canto General de Neruda y de la obra poética de Zurita; en ese sentido, es notable el espacio dedicado a los grandes maestros chilenos que son, a juicio del autor, la más grande contribución de Chile a las artes universales junto con su naturaleza diversa e indómita.
