First edition. viii, 124pp. This book contains eight papers prepared for a symposium organised by The Royal Scottish Museum and The Scottish Society of the History of Medicine, in connection with the special exhibition 'Edinburgh and Medicine' and the 250th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Edinburgh, held in the Royal Scottish Museum on 26th June 1976. After an introduction by C.G. Drummond, it includes the following papers: Leiden and Edinburgh by W.R.O. Goslings; The Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia by D.L. Cowen; and Early Edinburgh Medicine by C.J. Lawrence. The book is bound in the original green card covers and white titling with an illustration on the front cover. The book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the covers, rubbing to the spine ends and corners and some creases across the bottom front corner. The contents are secure and clean with no inscription. Programme for the symposium is tipped in to the rear.

Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings on tinted backgrounds for each letter of the alphabet. A very good copy, the binding firm with some looseness to the stitching between the wrappers and the textblock, a little chipping to the spine, a small, discreet tape reinforcement to the inside of the wrappers at the head and foot, and minor rubbing to the extremities. The contents with minor toning to page edges are otherwise clean and bright throughout and free from any previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. An attractive example. A wonderfully playful equestrian alphabet by the celebrated animal painter Charles Walter Simpson (1885-1971). A scarce production by the Curwen Press.
