Some copies have 29 or 30 other engraved portrait plates. Of the several comparable copies mentioned in Cole, one is recorded as having 28 plates. Cole describes his copy as having 30 plates in one volume and one in the other, for a total of 31. But it was after the date of the publication of this book, & during the summer of 1852, that I saw Mr. Irving more familiarly, & came to appreciate more fully that charming bonhomie, and geniality in his character, which we all recognize so constantly in his writings, & if I set down here a few recollections of that pleasant intercourse, they will, I am sure, more than make good the place of the old letter of Dedication, & will serve to keep alive the association 1 wish to cherish, between my little book & the name of the distinguished author who so kindly showed me his favor. I saw Mr. Irving afterward repeatedly in New York & passed two delightful days at Sunnyside. I can never forget a drive with him upon a crisp autumn morning through Sleepy Hollow, and all the notable localities of his neighborhood, in the course of which he kindly called my attention in the most unaffected & incidental way to those which had been specially illustrated by his pen & with a rare humor recounted to me some of his boyish adventures among the old Dutch farmers of this region. Most of all, it is impossible for me to forget the rare kindliness of his manner, his friendly suggestions, and the beaming expression of his eye. A Madame Victor Hugo, Adèle Foucher (1803-1868). Elle la remercie pour l'article sur la mort de sa mère dans le journal L'Evènement. Bien que signé « Cécile » elle est certaine qu'il est d'Adèle, à cause certains détails. Elle a copié les lignes qu'elle a ajouté aux reliques de sa mère et espère que sa fille, Marie, protégée par son mari, la remerciera aussi un jour. On joint une lettre, du 1er octobre 1848, d'un élu de la mairie du 8e arrondissement, Richard, à la même, confirmant la réception d'un don de 50 francs de Marie Dorval, ainsi qu'un berceau, pour les crèches du 8e arrondissement et d'un don de deux douzaines de chemises de Foucher. Ce don fut fait suite à la mort de Georges Luguet, le jeune fils de Caroline Dorval, le 16 mai 1848. On joint la quittance pour ce don. [365].

SALOMON als Eigentümer der National-Zeitung (= FERDINAND SALOMON, 1879-90 Hrsg.) - an ein Hochgeehrtes, liebenswürdiges Fräulein mit Dank für Ihre Teilnahme an der Soiree ZUM BESTEN DER UEBERSCHWEMMTEN AM RHEIN am 18.II.1883. (BEILIEGEND : FOTOKOPIE DES PROGRAMMS der Soiree mit Werken von Schubert (Gebet), Spohr, Schumann, Brahms, Joachim und Mendelssohn (Finale aus der unvollendeten Oper LORELEY). In Frage der Empfängerin dieses Schreibens kommen nur in Betracht : die kgl. Kammersängerin Frl. Emilia Tagliana, Frl. Henriette Hildebrandt bzw. Frl. Marie Soldat. // Die Überschwemmung am Rhein im Winter 1882/1883 war eine der schwersten Hochwasserkatastrophen in der Region. Besonders betroffen waren Gebiete wie der Hunsrück, der Odenwald, die Pfalz, der Südschwarzwald und die Vogesen . Die Hochwasserereignisse begannen im November 1882 und setzten sich bis Januar 1883 fort. Intensive Regenfälle und Schneeschmelze führten zu erheblichen Überschwemmungen. In Mainz stieg der Pegel auf 7,95 Meter, was zu umfangreichen Schäden führte . Auch in Worms waren große Teile der Stadt überflutet .).
