The first publication showcasing Tony Hayward's collection of handmade folk objects. Full-colour photography throughout. A significant precursor to a similar project by Vladimir Arkhipov who catalogued handcrafted make-do-and-mend utensils in his 'Home-Made: Contemporary Russian Folk Artifacts'. Hayward's Indian collection includes gardening tools, toys, lamps, and ornaments fashioned from painted tins and recycled metals. From the front dedication: "for the Moorthy and Tarapore families of Kolhapur and Pune, whose great kindness and hospitality has made this collection possible". Very good condition. Rare.

Illustrated from seven black and white photographs. Fine. Published on occasion of the exhibition held at Lee Gallery, Winchester, Massachusetts, March 1 - April 27, 2001. "Shortly before the end of the second world war Wayne Miller was awarded a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation to photograph 'The Way of Life of the Northern Negro'." He was a contributor to Magnum Photos beginning in 1958.
