Jesús De Loera and I co-chaired the event, which included presentations of on-going research and discussion. At the workshop, we decided to produce a volume of timely work on the topics. This volume is the result. Each chapter represents state-of-the-art research and all of them were refereed by leading investigators in the respective fields. Problems - sociated with protecting and attacking computer, transportation, and social networks gain importance as the world becomes more dep- dent on interconnected systems. Optimization models that address the stochastic nature of these problems are an important part of the research agenda. This work relies on recent efforts to provide methods for - dressing stochastic mixed integer programs. Extensive experiments and comparison studies are conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed indexing methods.Many new database applications, such as multimedia databases or stock price information systems, transform important features or properties of data objects into high-dimensional points. Searching for objects based on these features is thus a search of points in this feature space. To support efficient retrieval in such high-dimensional databases, indexes are required to prune the search space. In the plan-based approach, robots generate control actions by maintaining and executing a plan that is e ective and has a high expected utility with respect to the robots¿ c- rent goals and beliefs. Plans are robot control programs that a robot can not only execute but also reason about and manipulate [4]. The economic interpretation of the re sults were representations of preferences as sums or integrals and the decomposition of preferences into utilities and probabilities. It later turned out that t.he approach taken in the earlier versions were also the proper approach in generalizing from preferences which were total preorders to preferences which were not total or tran sitive. The same mathematics would even in that situation give representations which were additive. It would also give decomposi tions where concepts of uncertainty appeared. Early versions of some of the results appeared as Working Pa pers No. 135, 140, 150, and 176 from The Center for Research in Management Science, Berkeley. A first version of chapters 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8 appeared 1969 with the title' Mean Groupoids' [177]. They are essentially unchanged -except for some notes especially in chapter 6. Neuware -Christoph Clauser and Jom Bartels SHE MAT (Simulator for HEat and MAss Transport) is an easy-to-use, general purpose reactive transport simulation code for a wide variety of thermal and hy drogeological problems in two and three dimensions. Specifically, SHEMAT solves coupled problems involving fluid flow, heat transfer, species transport, and chemical water-rock interaction in fluid-saturated porous media. It can handle a wide range of time scales. Therefore, it is useful to address both technical and geo logical processes. In particular, it offers special and attractive features for model ing steady-state and transient processes in hydro-geothermal reservoirs. This makes it well suited to predict the long-term behavior of heat mining installations in hot aquifers with highly saline brines. SHEMA T in its present form evolved from a fully coupled flow and heat transport model (Clauser 1988) which had been developed from the isothermal USGS 3-D groundwater model of Trescott and Larson (Trescott 1975; Trescott and Larson 1977).
