Ich habe das Buch als Kursbuch für eine einsemestriege Einführungsveranstaltung in die digitale Bildverarbeitung an einer Fachhochschule verwendet und damit sehr gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Auch die Studierenden waren sehr zufrieden. Deshalb empfehle ich das Buch an dieser Stelle weiter. Es gibt eine praxisnahe Einführung in die digitale Bildverarbeitung, wobei die vielen Java-Beispiele das Verständnis sehr gut fördern. Softwareseitig setzt das Buch auf ImageJ, einer kostenlos verfügbaren Java-Software zur Bildverarbeitung mit übersichtlicher GUI. Diese erlaubt es, sowohl Bilder mit gegebenen Funktionen zu bearbeiten, als auch Java-Plugins einzubinden. Viele Plugins können von der entsprechenden Web-Seite zur Software heruntergeladen werden. Sehr vorteilhaft ist aber vor allem, dass man so eigene Algorithmen programmieren und sehr einfach einbinden kann. Auch das Buch hat seine eigene Web-Seite, auf der u.a. sämtliche Grafiken, Tabellen und Formeln sowie der Source-Code heruntergeladen werden kann. Dies ist insbesondere für Dozenten sehr hilfreich. Neuware - Dr. Supramaniam Srinivasan (1932-2004) obtained his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Chemistry from the University of Ceylon in l955 and his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. The title of his PhD is Mechanism of Electrolyte Hydrogen Evolution: An Isotope Effect Study, which he did under the direction of Professor John O'Mara Bockris. Srini, as he liked to be called, was very productive throughout his career. He spent several years as a po- doc with Dr. Bockris and published his first book on fuel cells with Dr. Bockris in 1969. The title of their book is Fuel Cells: Their Electrochemistry, which was published by McGraw-Hill. In l966, Srini began serving as an Assistant Professor of Electrochemistry in Surgical Research at the Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York (DMC-SUNY) in Brooklyn, New York. While he was there, Srini published several articles on the use of electrochemical methods in medical applications and later wrote a chapter on the subject entitled 'An Electrochemical Approach to the Solution of Cardiovascular Problems,' which appeared as Chapter 8 in Volume 10 of the Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry, Biochemistry. Srini left DMC-SUNY in 1973 and served at several institutions including the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) where he returned to more energy related electrochemical topics. Srini left LANL in 1988 and began serving as the Deputy Director of the Center for Electrochemical Systems and Hydrogen Research at Texas A&M University where I was at that time.

In Chapter V applications to some special problems in xed point theory are formulated. Then in the last chapter a direct applications to di erential inclusions are presented. Note that Chapters I and II have an auxiliary character, and only results c- nected with the Banach Contraction Principle (see Chapter II) are strictly related to topological methods in the xed point theory. In the last section of our book (see Section 75) we give a bibliographicalguide and also signalsome further results which are not contained in our monograph. The dominant model of economics has long been that of neo-classical economics. For neo-classical economists, human we- being is to be assessed by the availability of disposable income or according to goods consumed; it is measured by the levels of utility achieved in the consumption of commodities. Social order is fashioned by the ways consumers maximise their 1 well-being and enterprises maximise their profits. A core assumption is that all 2 commodities are commensurable: they can all be measured according to a single 3 numerical covering value, which is their price. Within this neo-classical paradigm, justice is achieved when the utility level of someone cannot be increased without 4 another person seeing his or her utility level decrease. The dominant paradigm of neo-classical economics was strongly challenged when development and welfare economist Amartya Sen received the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1998. His work offered an alternative to the neo-classical evaluation of human well-being in the utility/commodity space. The underlining philosophical intuition behind Sen's work is that the standard of living lies in the living and not in the consumption of commodities. In searching for an alternative measure of human well-being, Sen devised his capability approach.
