Beautifully bound 1802 edition with four engraved plates. Full crimson red straight grained morocco leather lettered and decorated in gilt, raised sipne bands, all edges gilt, gilt tooled inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, xxiv, 262 pages plus one page publisher's ad. Minimal edge rubbing, good hinges, firm text block, very lightly age-toned but clean pages, only one or two instances of light foxing, no names or other markings. Pencil note at front indicates that the plates are proof plates, likely a note from a prior bookseller. . Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Fourth Edition. 15-volume set (complete). A well-preserved set of George Steevens' 1793 15-Volume edition of Shakespeare's works, in original full calf. The leather has become dry and cracked with age, and there is some chipping and rubbing to the corners of the boards and heads and feet of the spines, but the binding remains fully intact. The hinges and joints of several volumes are cracked, but holding well. The front board of Volume 3 has been neatly re-attached with linen hinges. Book pages have normal age related wear with some foxing, mainly around endpapers, but overall are clean and unmarked and in excellent condition. The front pastedown of each volume has the bookplate of Edward King, with coat of arms and the motto 'Kings Ay to Kin Kindlie'. Volume One has handwritten note, with initials "E.K", on front free endpaper "This is known as 'Steevens' Own Edition' and is by many considered the most accurate and desirable edition published."
