Robert Bloomfield was a celebrated labouring-class poet whose rustic verse provides a vivid and empathetic portrayal of rural life in early 19th-century England. The Farmer"s Boy (1800), a long narrative poem depicting the young Giles's journey from farm laborer to prosperous farmer, is perhaps his best known work. Bound in full calf. Externally, very smart. The odd handling marks and slight rubbing to boards. Spines faded, slightly cracked and rubbed. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Hinges slightly strained. Previous owner's ink inscription to front free endpaper. Slight offsetting with the odd faint spot to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots.
