Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Literature Review from the year 2014 in the subject Engineering - Naval Engineering, Ocean Engineering, grade: 3, , language: English, abstract: The fast growing offshore industry has come up with advanced technology that makes it possible to produce oil and gas on deeper offshore sites. One of the interests now is to look for a structure and systems that are reliable and cost effective for ultra deep water operation. Tension leg platform (TLP) concept is currently been viewed for this ultra deepwater operation. TLP differ from other type of floating platform in a sense that the hull buoyancy exceed its weight, the hull is vertically moored at a draft below the displacement thus creating constant tension in the mooring line. The problem for the development of TLP beyond 1500 meters water depth is the material for the tendon. Conventional tendon made by steel is too heavy and proven to be unpractical in ultra deep water. New material is needed, that is lightweight and stiffer, and this material needs to meet the structural performance characteristic for practical development. This research is intended to demonstrate the performance of reduced weight tendons in ultra-deep water. The effect of weight reduction on motion response of the TLPs in regular and irregular waves and the performance differences between conventional tendons and reduced weight tendons in term of motion response also will be investigated. Based on the review it is known and widely accepted that numerical analysis is the most practical and economical way to analyze the structure, but because of the simplification and assumption of the numerical calculation a validation is needed. The numerical analysis will be done using industrial accepted software, ANSYS AQWA. For the purpose of validation, model test is proposed to be done in the test basin, but due to very limited water depth in the test basin, truncation method will be used instead of common traditional test. This method also known as hybrid method that uses numerical calculation to predict the cut off portion of the tether lines and using physical model test in the upper portion.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

In the past decade, prevalence rates of childhood obesity have assumed upward trends, in which developed countries record the highest percentages of obese and overweight children. However, prevalence rates in developing countries are increasing at a slow phase but, the overall obese children population remains relatively low. Therefore, this research paper will give an overview of the correlation between Socioeconomic Status and childhood obesity. Although there are many factors that put children at risk for childhood obesity, Social Economic Status seems to affect all risk factors that are responsible for the increase in childhood obesity.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Although Kenya is considered to be peaceful unlike her neighbors, a closer scrutiny reveals an unprecedented wave of internal and cross-border conflicts. These conflicts - mainly manifesting as political, economic; conflicts over natural resources, land and tribal clashes and lately terrorism - are sending signals that all is not rosy as the outside world has been erroneously been made to believe. It has experienced ethnic political violence around election periods frequently. The study investigates factors contributing to diversity related conflict in Kenya. It examined literatures on ethnicity, politics, democratic transition and political violence and the 2010 constitution to understand the nature of recurrent diversity related political problem in Kenya. The study found that in periods of political competition such as elections, political elites mobilize Kenyans along ethnic lines, which are perceived to be established voter blocs to ensure a victory to the highest office. The deliberate use of ethnicity is in line with the instrumentalist theory. Thus, this paper tries to recommend policy alternative to tackle the current diversity related problems in Kenya.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

However, this theory does not seem to be internationally respected. The most striking example would be the United States, commonly known as a law-breaker, law-avoider and law-defector. Its law-breaker position can be, for instance, very well illustrated by the Guantanamo Bay issue, which has ineradicably become synonymous with torture. Indeed, this subject has caused much controversy and debates are still straddling. It became the centre of international attention in 2002 when horrible images and video recordings showing the most degrading forms of abuse commited at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba were diffused by the media and spread across the entire world. Why The Bush administration had decided after the 9/11 attacks that the Geneva Conventions of 1949 would not apply to the Taliban and al-Qaeda. Instead, the latter were (even) deprived of the basic human living conditions. What about the Obama administration today Has the situation improved after the president announced his intention to close Guantanamo Which consequences would the closure give way to What happens to the detainees This paper will deal with the evolution of the Guantanamo Bay issue from the Bush administration until the current Obama presidency.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Medicine - Other, grade: 1, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: This argument paper will give an overview over the issue of abortion and attempt to provide a justification for the legalization of abortion.Abortion is seemingly becoming an enormous public health challenge in the United States. It has also emerged to be one of the most contentious social issues among the U.S population, leading to an unprecedented debate over its legalization. This debate can be attributed to the current situation whereby the prevalence rates of abortion seem to have assumed upward trends. It is quite surprising to learn that almost half of pregnancies among women, in the United States are unintended; thus, termination of the pregnancies serves as the most appropriate alternative. It has been found out that half of the women experiences at least one unintended pregnancy before the age of 45 years, and a third of these pregnancies are terminated. In the past decade, cases of abortion have increased significantly and this change in prevalence trends is believed to have been caused by an array of social, medical and economic factors. Currently, epidemiological reports indicate that four women out of ten pregnant women carry out abortion, in the U.S. However, it is worth noting that the prevalence of abortion among different social classes of people with different socioeconomic status are relatively variant, owing to the differences in conception rates. In the past two decades, unintended pregnancy rates among women with low socioeconomic status increased by 50%, whereas the rates decreased by 29% among women with high socioeconomic status. These epidemiological trends have caused uproar in the society, leading to the current abortion debate. Despite the controversy overshadowing the issue, abortion appears to be a personal issue because; it influences one's health and social life. 12 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Biology - Botany, , language: English, abstract: Research on the control of plant diseases by phyllosphere applied biological control agents has produced a wealth of informations on a wide range of fungal and bacterial biocontrol agents and their applications for controlling diseases affecting leaves, flowers and fruits. Research into their mode of action and ecological adaptation has provided critical insights that have increased commercial utilization of phyllosphere applied biocontrol agents has proven to be challangeing because the leaf surface presents a relatively hostile environment for introduced microbes with a relative paucity of available nutrients, wide water availability fluxes, direct exoposure to ultraviolet radiation and infrared radiation and competition with other phyllosphere colonist. Foliar applied biocontrol agents do not have the avoidance strategy of endophytic growth available to pathogens and therefore must primarily utilize a tolerance strategy whereby they colonise and survive on the leaf surface or in protected sites that may or may not be the same as the pathogen they are intended to control. Because of the variable effects of the biological and physical environment, the vast majority of phyllosphere applied biocontrol agents research has been focused on glasshouse or storage environment wherethe physical environment is more predictable and stable. Many of the early studies aimed at the study of the mode of action and evaluation of the efficacy of some potential biocontrol bacteria, such as Brevibaccilus subtilis, producer of antibiotics, however, the application of such bacteria on fruit did not prove to be commercially acceptable. Wilson and Wisniewski indicated the following characteristics of an ideal antagonist: genetic stability, efficacy at low concentrations and against a wide range of pathogens on various fruit products, simple nutritional requirements, survival in adverse environmental conditions, growth on cheap substrates in fermenters, lack of pathogenicity for the host plant and no production of metabolites potentially toxic to humans, resistance to the most frequently used pesticides and compatibility with other chemical and physical treatments. Yeasts seem to possess a good number of the above mentioned features and during the last few years, research has been made on the selection and study of yeasts.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Teacher, therefore, has to adopt certain approach to meet the purpose. With the advent of modern technology, lots of innovations were introduced to educational setting. However, the problem on learners¿ poor performance remains. As observed, this situation is attributed to one of the dominant factors, which is the learners¿ poor study habit. From this point, note-taking is perceived to be an apt action considering its advantages cited. Hence, this study is conducted. This endeavor tested the effect of graded and monitored metacognitive note-taking on the academic performance of fourth year students in English of Calingcaguing National High School, S.Y. 2014-2015. The study utilized pre - experimental design where only single group is considered and no control group was included. The single group of randomly selected 50 samples, was tested before and after exposure to graded and monitored meta-cognitive note-taking.The results revealed that: (1) the students mean pretest score is 25.9, (2) students mean posttest score is 42.86 and (3) there is a significant difference between the mean pretest and posttest scores of the students as revealed by the computed t-value of 7.77. From the result, it is inferred that graded and monitored metacognitive note-taking has a good impact on the learners¿ performance in English thus, a helpful approach in classroom instruction. Recommendations drawn are (1) graded and monitored metacognitive note-taking in other English classes or in the lower level may be adopted, (2) use graded and monitored metacognitive note-taking as an approach in teaching other subjects and (3) another related study to further test the usefulness of the approach may be conducted.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2017 in the subject History Europe - Other Countries - Middle Ages, Early Modern Age, grade: A\*, , course: History, language: English, abstract: The study examines the primary cause of the crusades. The crusades were an enterprise constructed out of inherently religious concerns. Jerusalem had been closed to Christian pilgrims and the Christian Byzantines were under threat from Muslim factions to the east.A similar trend was followed in the subsequent three major crusades. An alleged Muslim aggression would be countered by an apparently righteous Christian counter-attack. This threat was labelled by the papacy as a threat to all of Christendom and, for a population whose lives were dominated by religion, this was a very grave threat indeed. For kings and nobility religion was at once a fashionable expense and a very real subject of devotion. For the poor, the church was a place for conversation and celebration, confession and communion; with entire communities gathering there to do everything from celebrating Michaelmas to listening to a sermon condemning them all as sinners.Inevitably, religion would provide an underlying stimulus and justification for this act of violence undertaken in the name of God; but it would by no means be the only influence. As it is in today's society, money was an inescapable necessity of life and the restrictions which it imposed would play an important role in deciding the course and outcome of the crusades. Furthermore, any venture which required international cooperation, and especially one of this magnitude, would inevitably be restricted by the uncompromising labyrinth of temporal and papal politics.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 16 pp. Englisch.

Having been ruled by the Ottoman Empire for a long period, they now had to cope with Serbia as occupant. Serbian military, police and authorities in general followed a nationalist policy of ¿Serbianisation¿, which led to suppression of religious rights as well as harassment and atrocities against the non-Serbian population, especially Muslims. Ideas of ethnicity and religion played a significant role, when Serbian authorities tried to nationalise the people living in the region of ¿Vardar Macedoniä during the years 1912-1914. Suddenly, these people should not only be part of the state, but also the nation of Serbia. Background of this policy was the alleged common language, culture and religion of the people living in Serbia and in the new territory. In this paper, I will focus on the question of religion, which has to be seen in a close context to the ideas of nationalism and ethnicity in this region: Belonging to the Serbian nation meant belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Church. Since I will use diplomatic primary sources, my research question will be: ¿How did the idea of a common religion determine the policy of Serbianisation of Vardar-Macedonia in the eyes of foreign diplomats ¿Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Stowe uses her view on religion as her main instrument to abolish slavery. The textual construction of Christian values throws up questions about their persuasiveness to a modern reader. To find answers to such questions it is necessary to itemize Stowe¿s schema in order to question them from a modern point of view.Harriet Beecher Stowe originates from a strongly Christian affected background. Her father, brother, and husband were all theologians. Stowe liked to say God inspired her to write ¿Uncle Tom¿s Cabin¿ and that he even dictated her. It also must be mentioned, that most of her female readership also had a Christian background. This was not only based on the long American tradition of Christianity, but also on the idea of being the chosen country, pronounced in the Manifest Destiny. A whole country built itself upon the idea of a self given authority, which the white America saw as God given. This supported the common understanding of a new American race, which white America saw superior to the Afro-American population. White America not only thought of itself as more knowledgeable, but also as dominant rulers in the name of Christianity. But how is this evident in ¿Uncle Tom¿s Cabin¿ Which religious aspects need to be reviewed and which deserve critic BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 12 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2016 in the subject American Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, , language: English, abstract: Considered the key player in global politics it does not seem surprising that international relations theory centres around the role of the United States in the international system. Following the most recent elections the world is facing a wave of insecurity with scholars and policymakers alike wondering which course the United States will take. One important tool to predict actions is the study of identity, which been neglected in traditional IR theory. Yet understanding one¿s identity can provide valuable insights into the character, line of thinking and future actions. A state¿s identity is intertwined with its history and the U.S. history is one of war. Over the past century there was not one major war that the United States has not been involved in. One can therefore ask if the identity of the United States is founded on conflicts which were built by the United States itself This essay shall apply a poststructuralist approach to this question and discuss Foucault¿s ¿limit attitude¿ and exclusionist thinking in relation to U.S. history and foreign policy. The author shall look at the proclaimed war on terror as one example of a conflict the United States has faced over the past years although it would go beyond the boundaries of this piece to examine the war on terror in detail. Lastly, the conclusion is drawn that U.S. identity is shaped by conflicts but it would be false to call those crises self-constructed. Instead, the particularity of U.S. history and its foundation as an immigrant state have imposed a leading role in global politics upon them to which they are trying to live up to ever since. This paper attempted to conceptualize federalism as a tool for ethnic diversity accommodation through reviewing the existing literature on federalism, FDRE and south regional state constitution, city proclamations, and primary data from interview made and with researchers¿ interpretive arguments. The finding reveals that federalism at city government status contributes to accommodate rights, interests, needs and claims of competing ethnic groups, especially of ethnic minorities better at kebele institutional structures than at city institutional structures. At city institutional structures the indigenous groups are better protected rather than the non indigenous groups. Hence, the success of this process highly depends on the mechanisms adopted for sharing powers and responsibilities; the nature, subject and degree of decentralized power; and the willingness of authorities to allow the groups to exercise those powers, with other factors. Finally, This Paper tries to recommend complementary legal instrument for farther enhancement of ethnic diversity accommodation at city government status.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

This is why there exists a great divide between environmentalists and their challengers over the issue of climate change. To the present, the debate on climate change has taken diverse perspectives in which the critical issue is whether climate change is a factual or false phenomenon. In order to enhance understanding over the issue of climate change, a number of international agencies have been formed. One of the most proactive agencies that have immense contribution to the issue is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). This scientific intergovernmental body was established in 1988 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Following its endorsement by the UN General Assembly the same year, IPCC became one of the organizations under the auspices of the UN. Its core responsibility is to review and assess scientific, socio-economic and technical information related to climate change and prepare assessment reports for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its reports focus on the risks of human-induced climate change, as well as, its potential socio-economic and environmental impacts. As such, IPCC reports propose the most appropriate mitigation approaches to climate change.Since its inception, IPCC has contributed immensely to the assessment of climate change. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive discussion on IPCC¿s contribution to the climate change debate. It will also present a critical assessment of the linkage between the agency¿s values and interests, its advocacy positions and its use of science.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: This essay will deal with the ongoing violent conflict in Syria, generally known as the Syrian Civil War. Being one of the most discussed and impactful conflicts of the last decade or so, the Syrian Civil War is undoubtedly worthy of an analysis from the perspective of the field of International Studies. The conflict in Syria, which has marked its fifth anniversary in March 2016, has quickly become a global political battleground for two superpowers, Russia and the United States. The involvement of the two world leaders in the conflict has also brought high level of coverage of the conflict, both in scholarly and popular literature. The global importance of this conflict and the amount of material on the topic have both given more than enough reason for the Syrian Civil War to be selected as the primary focus of the essay. Furthermore, the essay will specifically focus on two main issues: first, it will focus on the emergence of the conflict and the key actors involved in it, and second, the essay will try to describe some of the major (and often devastating)effects the conflict has had on both the country of Syria and its neighboring countries, including the continent of Europe.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

The author bases his analysis on the rational-actor model of foreign policy analysis.Ethiopiäs economic growth is strongly tied to its investments in agriculture and electricity from hydropower, which not only creates opportunities for the region but also causes some negative externalities. The treat of water deficiency is particularly high for Egypt, which largely depends on the waters of the Nile, with its supply being threatened by the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in 2017.Water politics with regards to foreign policy in addition to domestic conflict potentials are the most significant political challenges for Ethiopia today. Neuware -Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2015 in the subject Didactics - Politics, Political Education, Addis Ababa University (Center for Federal Studies), course: Human Rights, language: English, abstract: It is a great opportunity for citizens of all countries to have the rights they deserve, and being equal before the law. Sub nationalities and divisions in numbers do not require or increase their privileges. In many ways, citizenship and public rights varies from country to country as a result of their numbers (majority) or being indigenous. In this regard, the minority in the country is not given much attention to democratic rights. They do not establish their own state, they may not use their language and are dependent on their political involvement. To address this problem, it is a federal and regional state recognized by the constitution of FDRE and the regions that have been the most responsible for the establishment of their own state. In other words, the region has assumed its constitutional right to enact these laws. In this article, however, the Gambela People's National state had formed with five ethnic groups and the political participation of minorities are acknowledged. Based on this knowledge, the Komo people political and social involvement and the regional government accommodation will be inscribed.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: International Organisations, grade: 1,5, University of East London, course: BA (Hons) International Politics with Psychology, language: English, abstract: Although all civilisations and religions have had certain rights and duties, benefits and obligations for their people, the notion of human rights as it is currently understood is a Western model and arguably a rather young idea. The study of human rights is an extremely complicated matter and has been discussed and researched for decades and yet still no general agreement has been reached. This piece is set out to examine human rights and the importance of the UN agenda in the worldwide promotion of human rights. A brief historical overview will be given over the enforcement of human rights in international organisations, although it would go beyond the boundaries of this piece to describe the history of human rights activism in detail. The author will then discuss whether human rights are universal and go on to show the benefits of general and international rights of men. Finally, this piece shall debate why the UN human rights agenda is so limited given human rights are universal and promote international peace and security and it shall be argued that limited UN activism towards human rights is actually benefitting instead of interfering with the global promotion of human rights.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Health - Public Health, grade: 1, Egerton University (Public Health), course: Infection Control, language: English, abstract: Hand hygiene has emerged as the only single strategy that has the potential for reducing hospital-acquired infections. Evidence indicates that hospital-acquired infections pose an immense hazard for patients within the hospital environment, and healthcare workers, including nurses are involved in the transmission of these infections. This explains why health organizations such as WHO, The Joint Commission and Centers for Disease Control have embarked on spearheading education and awareness on hand hygiene. Despite these efforts, evidence indicates that healthcare workers continue to exhibit low levels of hand hygiene compliance. Therefore, this essay will demonstrate how nurses can assume a leadership role within the hospital settings in accordance with the health safety standards (National Safety and Quality Health Services) as outlined by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care [ACSQHC]. It will be discussed how nurses can adopt hand hygiene strategies to improve compliance to the national hand hygiene initiative in the wards as one of the key approaches for preventing and controlling hospital-acquired infections.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

It is the aim to analyze and interpret the data for developing sustainable solutions for tapping solar energy through calculation of energy value produced per year under optimum conditions analyzing the data obtained through PVWatts calculator available at NREL.Global warming has increased the demand and request for green energy produced by renewable sources such as solar power. Solar panels are used to convert light energy into electrical energy. Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) has set the ambitious target of deploying 1 lakh MW of grid connected solar power by 2022. Doubling the share of solar, wind and other renewable sources in the energy mix would boost global economic growth by as much as 1.1 % by 2030, according to IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency). The gains equal to $1.3 trillion would mostly come from increased investment. The earth receives 16 x 1018 units of energy from the sun annually, which is 20,000 times the requirement of mankind on the Earth. In today¿s time solar cells are becoming extremely popular for utilizing solar energy to use in different ways such as producing electricity, transportation, cooking etc. So many solar panels have been installed around the world, acting as sustained sources of renewable energy.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Psychology - Psychology of Religion, grade: A, Kathmandu University (Rangjung Yeshe Institute), course: Yogachara Philosophy (300), language: English, abstract: The 'Abhidharma' is a voluminous collection of early Buddhist works written during the 3rd and 4th century. The works contain Buddhist fundamental psychology that go into more detail than any other work on human psychology before its time, containing an incredibly detailed analysis of the human mind. It is based on the teachings of the Buddha and supports a tremendous hosts of traditions that still base their dogma on it today. It was designed to address major doctrinal, however fundamental, positions held by Buddhist, and has been commented on as the basis ¿ even authority ¿ on a range of topics beyond psychology, including dimensions of metaphysics, ontology and phenomenology. In this essay, I will argue that despite the meticulous detail the Abhidharma provides, consciousness and causality were left unclear, forcing philosophers like Vasubandhu to invent remarkable theories to develop Mahayana consciousness and solve causalityBooks on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Didactics - English - Literature, Works, grade: 1.7, University of Warwick, language: English, abstract: This essay aims to show how far the Romantic period in German and English literature can be seen as a transitional phase from the Enlightenment and to the point of Modernity. Given the fact that all consecutive literary periods cannot be divided by mere points in time and certain general features, it is going to be shown that the given eras melt into each other; that earlier periods, in this case first of all Romanticism, but also the Enlightenment, the Classical era, established characteristics which would then be absorbed, redefined or rejected by the succeeding ones, namely Romanticism and Modernity. The main focus will be to differentiate between, as well as to equalise certain features of Romanticism and Modernity, which must include a deeper look at the past they emerged from. To do so, it will also be necessary to include a high amount of literary criticism, all dealing with the relevant periods and to exemplify the evidences provided by referring to primarily ¿Frankenstein¿, ¿Die Räuber¿, ¿Die Verlobung in St. Domingö, and ¿Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte¿.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 16 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2012 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,7, University of Tubingen, course: Übung: Written Communication II, language: English, abstract: This research paper refers to Frederick Douglass¿s ¿Narrative¿ to examine his personal development in terms of cultural memory and (cultural) identity. It will argue that Douglass, who had been deprived of his own culture by the dominant American system, was able to construct an African American identity for him and his fellow black Americans by resisting that system and by sharing his memories with the public.Belonging to a social group of whatever kind and sharing its respective cultural memory is necessary to build up an identity. But what if you do not belong anywhere What if you are a stranger to and not welcome in the society you are born into and, at the same time, are prevented from practicing your original culture This was exactly the situation of black slaves in America before the Civil War preceding the abolition of slavery. They had been brought involuntarily to America, where they were treated as objects, and as mere working machines. They did not have any rights, and were prevented from any personal contact with their family. Thus they could not develop a cultural memory as a precondition for a culture identity, which would have been necessary for a healthy personal development. An example for a person who has grown up as a slave in America is Frederick Douglass (1818-1881). He escaped from his masters at the age of 20 and led a life on the run until he became involved in the abolitionist cause. Being ¿the anti-slavery movement¿s most eloquent and electrifying speaker¿, he is remembered as one of its most important leaders. In his speeches, he mostly reported his own experience as a slave, showing ¿slavery¿s horrible cruelties¿ and thereby trying to convince people of the abolition. Finally, he wrote three autobiographies, the first of which is called ¿Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass¿.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.
