Neuware -Academic Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, grade: 76, The Open University (School of Educational Technology), course: Technology-Enhanced Learning: Practices and Debates, language: English, abstract: This paper presents the critical reflection on technology-assisted learning. It is based on the choices practitioners make about how to apply technologies to their learners and the choices learners make about their own learning, in terms of what technologies they use, why and how. Based on three main learning activities: blog and blogging, Reading Price (2007) and, the learner experience; reflection uses concrete example to explain what allows the author to understand the choices, experiences and methods of practitioners and learners in the application of technologies to education. A brief takeaway from the discussions is that learners and practitioners have different choices in specialized technologies. Learner¿s experience is grounded on four major things: familiarity with technology, students¿ perceptions, Students expectations and efficacy and effectiveness ensures teachers realize their intentions of their course design, relative to the use of technology (approach). Based on these, recommendations were made on how courses and learning activities could be better developed. 20 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,3, University of Duisburg-Essen (Anglophone), language: English, abstract: It has not been a surprise that over the last years the novel of a boy with a scar and magic abilities has inspired children and adults. People cannot stop reading the story of a young boy who goes to a wizard school named Hogwarts. But have they thought why readers are attracted to this book series And how it has influenced them in different ways These are questions, this paper tries to answer. Furthermore, the main goal will be to answer the question in what way does symbolism appear into the novel What is the meaning of the symbols in this novel These questions will be answered by both: analysing the context in which they appear and their possible meaning in the novel. The answer would be simple: Due to many stylistic and rhetorical devices, J. K. Rowling enlightens the world of the and gives us the possibility to discover it. However, a big part of this input comes from symbolism she uses as an author to catch attention in a better way. An entire generation has been influenced of how the author J. K. Rowling turns the world of a book into a living one. Therefore, it is no surprise that this piece of fantasy literature has become an important object of various studies. The novel itself can be investigated in several ways. This means Harry Potter as a fantasy novel is a masterpiece of literary and stylistic devices. It can also be approached as a good example of how an author could with use of symbolism write a good novel. In this term paper, the author would therefore like to limit the field of study to the meaning of the symbols we can find in Harry Potter. Furthermore, there will be a short definition to give an overview about what are core aspects in Heroic fantasy This should help to get an impression of what is important in this genre and how it is presented. The term paper will be structured with a theoretical framework, the analysis and a conclusion to summarise all important results and with a look in the future concerning symbolism. There are a lot of traditional symbols with different origins and meanings. In this term paper the author is describing only the most common symbols like e.g. good versus evil, magic, names and spells and other important symbols which she considers as nameable. She will be working with the hypothesis that patterns can be found in the manner of symbolism in many various ways. 20 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 1,0, University of Cologne, language: English, abstract: This analysis will focus on how humans with extraordinary bodies were turned into freaks through processes that stem from a concept of normalcy. Firstly, the social construction of normalcy will be examined in combination with the societal expectation of bodies to be whole and how these expectations influenced the lives of people with unusual bodies. Moreover, the focus will be laid on the concept of Othering in order to further explain the formation of freak shows. In addition to that, Garland-Thomson¿s theory of Staring will be applied to the way that ordinary humans with extraordinary bodies were turned into freaks. The different theories are connected through the variable of normalcy. Normalcy influences the different ways that people were turned into freaks. The analysis is mainly based on the works of Rosemary Garland-Thomson, who wrote about extraordinary bodies and the theory of Staring, Robert Bogdan and Brigham A. Fordham, who closely studied freak shows, and Lennard J. Davis and his concept on normalcy. ¿Monstrosity¿, ¿Freak¿, ¿Cripple¿ were terms that used to describe humans whose bodies deviated from the norm. These people were solely reduced to the way their bodies looked and how they possibly malfunctioned. In nineteenth century America, people with unusual bodies were exhibited in so-called freak shows, in order to make profit for the owners and to amuse the audiences. The body forms the center of attention in freak shows and is deeply connected to and intertwined with the concept of normalcy that is common in society. Even though the term ¿freak¿ has a negative connotation nowadays and is not acceptable to use anymore, it used to be a set expression, which is the reason for using it in this analysis without quotation marks.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

On the other hand, it looks at the distribution of Korean media content in a global context through digital platforms. The primary example chosen is Netflix. First, I will briefly review the selected literature, then list the rationale and thesis before explaining why a political economy approach is used, and what theoretical framework is applied in the analysis. In the main section, the objects of analysis are the highly competitive Korean OTT market, and the role of Netflix in the distribution of Korean content outside of Korea. Finally, in the conclusion, I will reiterate the rationale, and state how I have argued the thesis statement. Additionally, the main findings will be summarized, and the usefulness of the selected theoretical framework evaluated.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

The concern with cultural decolonization hails from different academic spheres, and as well as different geographical settings that either experienced European colonialism like in Africa, Asia or, from geographies with masses who were subjected to a forceful removal and enslavement and subsequently ferried from their indigenous homelands to Europe or America. To decolonize culture in this context primarily means, to liberate language, identity, and the intellectual constellation of the colonized communities from the colonial experience that some/many believe to have suppressed and subjugated their cultural identities.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2020 in the subject Politics - Region: Near East, Near Orient, grade: 1.3, University of Tubingen, language: English, abstract: When dealing with Saudi Arabiäs policies towards the Yemeni conflict, it is worthwhile taking the domestic level of analysis into consideration. Among the many domestic factors which might be relevant to this study, the author will focus on three dimensions: Saudi Arabiäs population, the economic dimension which also affects the Kingdom¿s foreign policy, and the regional environment in the Persian Gulf.In March 2015, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia embarked on a military intervention in neighboring Yemen. About half a year earlier, in September 2014, the Shi¿a Houthi rebels (self-declared Ansar Allah, Arabic for ¿Helpers of God¿) had seized control over Yemen¿s capital Sanäa and forced the incumbent Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to flee, first to the Southern city of Aden, then in March 2015 to Saudi Arabia where he has stayed ever since (mostly). The primary goal of the Saudi-led military coalition (including the United Arab Emirates and several Yemeni militias) has been to expel the Houthi rebels from the capital Sanäa and to reinstall the internationally recognized government of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi (without success until the time of writing).Which domestic and regional constellations can explain Saudi Arabiäs policies towards Yemen since the beginning of the war in March 2015 Instead of looking at these events from the Realist perspective (i.e. through the lens of the dominant Realism theory in International Relations), a Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) approach shall be undertaken. While Realism as a school of thought is primarily concerned with (economic and military) power and security, and may thus have certain advantages in the study of authoritarian states in general, and of the Yemen war, the FPA approach offers valuable insights into the making of the Kingdom¿s policies towards Yemen. FPA, in contrast to the strict Realist focus on the state as a monolithic category, sheds light on differences within the state and other factors, be they economic or transnational. 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject African Studies - Literature, grade: 2.5, University of Lagos, language: English, abstract: The phenomenon of abandoned children and parent's irresponsibility is at the epicenter of Amma Darko's construction. As a corollary to this, critics have come to review the text from standpoints within the established phenomenal domain. Similarly, the motivation here holds sway within this parameter. However, the objective here is to examine the nature of culture towards children and its attendant role in defining into existence a class order - the adults versus the children. Such class identification signals a hint of marxist structure, a society in which a powerful group dominate and oppress the powerless marginal group. Unlike other previous critiquing that has investigated this phenomenon from a Marxist lens only and moral perspectives, the uniqueness of this study rests on the fact that it draws insight from both Marxism and Cultural Criticsm in the identification of the origin of such socio-phenomenal damage using Amma Darko's Faceless. 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2021 in the subject Sociology - Law and Delinquency, grade: 1, National Islamic University, language: English, abstract: Adoption occurred primarily to preserve and transmit family lines or inheritance, to gain political power or to forge alliance between families. The issue highlighted in this paper is the protection of children from illegal adoption or adoptions that are done for an illegal purpose like human trafficking. Human trafficking is a major concern not only intra-country but also inter-country. The aim of this paper is to identify the problem and suggest ways to a better solution. The first topic is a brief history in which the genesis of adoption is explained, and it is discussed whether adoption is really for the welfare of the child. Furthermore, the relationship between inter-country adoption and India is explained. It is analysed, what laws provide such kind of adoptions, what is lacking in those laws, what their impact is and if the adoption is really happening in the country. Additionally, the international laws of adoption and whether they help in protecting the interest of the child are discussed. Then, the problem of child trafficking based on illegal adoption, how far the laws dealt with it, what has to be done and how to protect children from such abuses is explained. There must be a strong, stable and legitimate inter-country adoption infrastructure. Adoption can only maintain a principled and enforceable line against child selling and child trafficking when effective systems of enforceable regulation are in place that effectively prevent adoption systems from becoming markets for children. The refusal or failure of the domestic and inter-country adoption systems to put those needed regulations into place speaks volumes regarding the ethics of the domestic and inter-country adoption. Inter-country adoption is a conditional good; inter-country adoption as child trafficking is an evil. 20 pp. Englisch.

In exploring this investigation, the argument here is hinged on the fact that to properly ascertain the depth of female subjugation in such a traditional society, a researcher must, as a necessity, employ also, the tropes of Cultural Criticism. The rationale behind this proves that through the lens of cultural criticism, the text can be better appreciated through the traditional theory of feminism. 16 pp. Englisch.

From its first premiere in 1953 to this current day, the text is still being highly reputed. The intention here is to attempt an investigation for such hallowed disposition in the oeuvre of literature through the application of New-Historicism and Reader-response criticsms. The research motivation stems from the interest in noting how Beckett is able to encode the prevailing manners of the Modernist literary era. Neuware -Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, RWTH Aachen University (Institut für Anglistik, Amerikanistik und Romanistik der RWTH Aachen), language: English, abstract: The goal of the paper is to identify features relating to homosexual identity, based on a characterization of Williams¿s female characters. Among other studies, Tennessee Williams¿s work has commonly been researched from a gay study perspective by literary scholars and queer theorists. The motive for that was mostly Williams¿s own homosexuality and the stigma that surrounded the issue around the time he published his most famous pieces. He has written plays which explicitly involve the topic of homosexuality, as the eminent Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but most of his work does not embrace homosexuality precisely. Nevertheless, on the grounds that literary studies is fairly limitless, for literature provides many different fields for analyses, it is possible to involve literary pieces into the field of gay studies, even though it initially does not specify the matter. The arguably most interesting element in Tennessee Williams¿s drama are his characters, many of whom seem to share similar characteristics as struggling individuals. Analyzing the fictional characters with regard to gay writing could help find a possible pattern, draw conclusions about the influence of Williams¿s personality, and thus, support the assumption that homosexuality is integrated in his plays. Gender is also fundamental for an approach based on sexuality. Taking that into consideration, below, the focus will be on Williams¿s female characters, especially on the protagonists Laura Wingfield from The Glass Menagerie and Blanche DuBois from A Streetcar Named Desire. These women are not necessarily gay themselves; in the plays, there is no clear evidence about them being sexually or romantically attracted to the same sex. Instead, sexuality is a broad concept with more meanings attached to it, which will further be discussed in the third chapter. 40 pp. Englisch.

First, Arab and Western societies have different attitudes towards religion. Criticism of religion and highly-esteemed religious figures is a taboo in the Arab world. References that give offence to God, messengers, holy figures or religious beliefs are probably omitted or rendered with some kind of euphemism that takes into consideration the anticipated reaction of the Arab reader to such an offence. In addition to religious issues, sexual references are still a taboo in the Arab world. Concepts related to sexual intercourses, genitals, women's breasts and gay relationships are usually euphemized or deleted in English-Arabic translation. Similarly, the impact of swear words which imply sexual references varies among cultures. They are more a taboo in the Arab world than they are in the Western world. In this research, we shall see, through the many given examples, how the instances pertaining to all these cultural taboos¿religious and social¿are mostly either euphemized or emitted when rendered into Arabic. 24 pp. Englisch.

It analyses how 'Resource-for-Infrastructure' agreements highlight the limitations of the 'Corporate Social Responsibility' theory in providing an alternative conception of market capitalism. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has an abundance of natural resources, containing over 80 million hectares of arable land, and access to over 1,100 minerals and metals. However, in 2013, the United Nations Development Programme¿s (UNDP) Human Development Index (HDI) ranked the DRC 187th out of 188 states, with a score of 0.304 HDI. Therefore, due to its abundance of resources, the DRC has the potential to become a prominent driver of African growth, but currently remains one of the world¿s poorest states. Amongst other factors, the DRC¿s abundance of natural resources has played a central role in its continued economic and political insecurity. Like many resource-rich developing states, Western and Chinese multinational companies have intervened in the state¿s extractive mining sectors. Although resource-based growth has led to a number of successes, their interventions, in some cases, have not led to positive economic trends for developing states. This is commonly referred to as the resource curse for developing states that are resource-rich. Today, in light of the economic, social and environmental controversies caused from natural resource mining in the developing world, mining companies, and their associated banks, provide Resource-for-Infrastructure (RFI) agreements. 36 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Sociology - Consumption and Advertising, grade: 1,3, University of Trier, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this term paper is to analyze the portrayal of women in print advertisement over the last sixty years to represent changes in the depiction of females over this period. This topic is of interest since mass media plays an important role in our society today and it can be considered as one of the major agents of socialization. Consequently, gender stereotypes presented in advertisement influence the way we think men and women shall be. However, since the role of women has changed dramatically over the last decades due to feminist movements, it will be of interest if these social changes have been depicted in advertisement as well. In particular, it is assumed that the portrayal of women in advertisement has been shifting from an overt, traditional stereotypical portrayal of women as housewives or highly dependent on men to a slightly more subtle stereotypical portrayal of women as decorative, sexy, and using facial expressions and body positions to demonstrate subordination and weakness. To prove this hypothesis this term paper will first compare past studies focusing on the stereotypical depiction of females in advertisement. For this purpose two studies were considered most important: These were Courtney and Lockeretz quantitative print magazine analysis covering the year 1970, and Erving Goffman¿s selective print magazine analysis published in 1979. Furthermore, there are many relating and follow-up studies that are based on the coding schemes used in these two analyses which provide the possibility to show changes over time. Afterwards, the second part will be more practical, examining portrayals of women in example print advertisements. To be able to provide a consecutive and meaningful depiction of the changes, advertisements of two companies from different years were chose to be analyzed. 24 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,0, University of Frankfurt (Main) (Finanzen), language: English, abstract: This paper aims to explain the countercyclical behavior of the equity risk premium and the stock return volatility by introducing an external habit formation feature in the standard representative-agent consumption-based asset pricing model, in form of the so called ¿catching up with the Joneses¿ preferences. These preferences imply that the relative risk aversion of the agents in the economy is constant over time and varies across the agents, which generates an endogenous wealth process, that in turn creates a countercyclical behavior in the risk premium and the conditional stock return volatility. As the agents with lower risk aversion distribute a greater fraction of their wealth to risky assets, their wealth decreases relatively more in reaction to cyclical downturns, shifting the aggregate wealth towards more risk averse individuals. These more risk averse agents, however, demand a higher compensation for risk, leading to an increase of the aggregate equity risk premium in response to a fall in stock prices. One of the most studied topics in modern economics are the market mechanisms that lead to the determination of asset prices in an economy. The empirical research indicates that there is a link between the historically observed asset prices and macroeconomic developments. One of the most important observations are the countercyclical behavior of the equity risk premium and the stock return volatility, implying that the excess return of common stocks over the risk-free rate during business cycle troughs is significantly higher than during expansions. 20 pp. Englisch.
