Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. BLIGH, William (preface Admiral of the Fleet, the Earl Mountbatten of Burma; intro. Stephen Walters & D. G. C. Allan). The Log of H.M.S. Providence, 1791-1793. Guildford: Genesis Publications, 1976. Thick Folio. Half brown polished calf and green buckram cloth. Front cover with vignette of the breadfruit plant in gilt. Spine with raised bands, gilt-decorated compartments, titled in gilt on dark brown Morocco panel. Green speckled edges. Marbled endpapers. 951 pp. Colour collotype frontispiece reproducing Sydney Parkinson's breadfruit watercolour, with tissue guard. Five folding maps. Numerous black and white illustrations and facsimiles throughout. Complete reproduction of John Ellis's A Description of the Mangostan and the Breadfruit (1775); notes on the breadfruit plant by David Bellamy OBE. Limited edition. Limited to 500 numbered copies, this being number 483. Bookplate of Milton Whitmont to front free endpaper. Facsimile of the manuscript held in the National Archives, Kew. Two years after the mutiny that cast him adrift in an open boat, William Bligh (1754-1817) returned to the Pacific to complete the mission the Bounty had failed to accomplish: the transport of breadfruit saplings from Tahiti to the West Indies, where it was hoped the fast-growing, calorie-dense fruit could provide cheap and reliable food for enslaved plantation workers. This second voyage, in command of HMS Providence accompanied by the armed tender Assistant, ran from 1791 to 1793 and succeeded entirely where the first attempt had ended in disaster and mutiny — Bligh delivered his breadfruit plants to St Vincent and Jamaica without incident, vindicating both his seamanship and, to whatever extent such things can be vindicated, his character. The Providence voyage carries an additional and poignant historical weight: Bligh's log records his own attempts, made along the way, to trace the fate and whereabouts of Fletcher Christian and the Bounty mutineers, noting with evident astonishment the reports reaching him of Christian's return to Tahiti in the Bounty itself, "to the very great astonishment of the Natives." The log is thus simultaneously the record of a successful and largely uneventful transport mission and a document of Bligh's continuing, unresolved reckoning with the mutiny that had defined his earlier career and his public reputation. This Genesis Publications facsimile edition, reproduced from Bligh's original manuscript log held in the National Archives at Kew, is accompanied by a substantial scholarly and botanical apparatus: the complete reproduction of John Ellis's 1775 treatise on the breadfruit and mangosteen, contemporary notes on the breadfruit plant by the naturalist and broadcaster David Bellamy, and introductory essays by Stephen Walters, the recognised authority on Bligh's life, and D. G. C. Allan. The preface is contributed by Admiral of the Fleet, the Earl Mountbatten of Burma — a figure whose own distinguished naval career and lifelong engagement with British maritime history make him a fitting voice to introduce Bligh's second and more successful Pacific command. This copy bears the provenance of the Whitmont family in the bookplate of Milton Whitmont. The Whitmont family are documented among Australian collectors and have been the subject of scholarly study. Their library of exploration and Pacific history is well-known the be among the best collections within Australia. Fine. Some very faint markings along edges of text block. Binding fine, well preserved. Slipcase shows only mild shelf wear. Please note: This is a large and heavy volume. Additional postage costs may apply. If so, we will contact you after purchase.…

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition Special Edition. Deluxe, signed limited edition, 332 of 350 bound in full black leather. In 1975, the Rolling Stones documented their mammoth 40-show American tour - T.O.T.A 75 - in its entirety. Their trusted friend, Christopher Sykes, was brought along to create a visual and written record of their journey. Travelling with the band in a specially commissioned aircraft called the Starship, Sykes was a constant companion to the band for the entirety of the tour. His photographs, diary entries, and daily newsletters will give you a front-row seat on the Starship, a backstage pass for prep with the band, and along with the members during their activities. This handmade, leatherbound book and boxed set is the result of these efforts: an official, limited edition publication overseen by the members of the band themselves. Inside you will find a large archived of previously-unseen photographs, a personal diary, and a collection of tour memorabilia - including backstage passes and hotel keys. First Deluxe Edition. Guildford: Genesis Publications LTD., 2006. Large 4to. (36x31cm). Original black publisher's leather in decorative solander case. This deluxe edition contains an additional photo of Mick Jagger signed by Sykes, as well as the signatures of Sykes and Ridge within the book. Also included is a facsimile of the "Starship" 12-page promotional brochure illustrating and describing the aircraft on which the tour was travelled. Alongside this, two replica hotel room keys and 40 backstage passes are housed in compartments within the solander case. Fine. Impeccably preserved inside solander case. All contents collated and complete, including extra items such as keys and passes. Solander case has some minor markings here and there. Please note: This item is large and/or heavy. It may require additional postage costs to be paid. If so, we will contact you after purchase. Signed by Author(s).…

In den Warenkorb4to. dj. 1st Edition. First edition, limited issue of 2,000 signed and numbered copies (this is #1908), black calf version. 4to. I, Me, Mine was The Beatles' lead guitarist George Harrison's musical memoir, originally published in 1980 as a hand-bound, limited edition book by Genesis Publications. Opening with a foreword by Derek Taylor, it was profusely illustrated throughout with vintage photographs and color facsimiles of Harrison's autograph song lyrics, and issued in a variety of different leather bindings, including light and dark brown, light and dark green, black, and a small variety of 23 other colors (this copy is bound in black, and additionally holds a typed mimeograph letter from the publisher). Perhaps unsurprisingly, the 2,000 signed copies quickly sold out. John Lennon - who would be murdered in December 1980 just a few months after the book's release - took offense with Harrison's text, stating, "I was hurt by it . By glaring omission in the book, my influence on his life is absolutely zilch and nil . I'm not in the book." (He was, in fact, mentioned several times.) Harrison later responded to Lennon's comments in a December 1987 television interview, noting "[Lennon] was annoyed 'cause I didn't say that he'd written one line of this song 'Taxman.'
