"Frankie and Johnny" is a classic American murder ballad based on the occasion in 1899 in St Louis, where Frankie Baker shot her lover Allen 'Al' Britt, after discovering him with another woman at a dance hall. Frankie claimed self-defense and was acquitted. The incident has evolved into dozens of songs and plays.
