Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. RAILROADS THE TRAINS WE RODE BY BEEBE & CLEGG VOLUME I 1965 DJ. My many current listings of railroad related books are starting to draw some attention and some sales, so how about a few more. Please find: The Trains We Rode Volume I Alton New York Central, by Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg. This large hard cover book (8 ¾ x 11 ¼ inches, 465 pages) was published by Howell-North Books of Berkeley, California, dated 1965 and a First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in black cloth with ornate gilt titles on cover and spine and protected by a pictorial dust jacket. This book is handsomely illustrated, with a lovely color frontispiece and 801 illustrations, 6 in full color and 5 new paintings by Howard Fogg. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows a good deal of edge wear, particularly along the top edge where there is also a 2-inch tear on the back cover. Someone struck out the printed price on the flap and replaced it with ink. The hard covers are perhaps a bit dust-dulled but clean and with still bright gilt titles; the covers are canted slightly to the right. Inside, a former owner has left his name and date on the first blank page but as with many of the other railroad books I am currently listing, this is the only mark in the otherwise clean and bright interior pages. The leading edge of the pages has a lot of light brown spots probably from tobacco smoke exposure (but no residual odors of same). Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 1st Edition. RAILROADS SNOWPLOW CLEARING MOUNTAIN RAILS BY GERALD M. BEST 1966 1ST DJ 150 PICTURES. Staying with my current group of books about railroads, I am pleased to offer another volume, one which will prompt you to say, if you live here in the Northeast, whatever happened to snowy winters? The book is titled: Snowplow Clearing Mountain Rails, by Gerald M. Best. This large hard cover book (8 ¾ x 11 ¼ inches, 119 pages) was published by Howell-North Books of Berkeley, California, dated 1966 and a First Edition with the same date on title & copyright pages. This book is bound in warm green cloth with black title panels on cover and spine; it is protected by a printed paper dust jacket. As I have written about other books among my railroad listings, this one too is copiously illustrated with iconic b&w photos of locomotives and trains. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket has suffered a bit, with some light tobacco smoke staining (no residual odor) and edge wear including small tears and chips. The hard covers are clean and bright with some light bumping to the bottom corner and spine tip. Inside, a former owner has left his name on the first blank page but that is the only mark I found in the books. The interior pages and many photos are clean and unblemished throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
Zustand: near fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: fair. Second Printing, October 1960. from the front DJ flap, "This book is based on the premise that San Francisco blessed with wonderful climate, possessing a good harbor, and having the Comstock Lode conveniently nearby, early and easily achieved standards of elegance and cosmopolitan ways. Even today this pattern remains, so that its inhabitants "in moments of trail turn to champagne." DT5. orange boards, gentlemen design on front, 11" x 8.5", DJ chipped and taped, 255 pages, indexed, 325 illustrations with 4 full color.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. 1st Edition. RAILROADS THE RUTLAND ROAD BY JIM SHAUGHNESSY 1964 1ST DJ. Staying with my current group of books about railroads, I am pleased to offer another volume, this one in good condition but with a dust jacket that has clearly taken the brunt of the wear, titled, simply: The Rutland Road, by Jim Shaughnessy. This large hard cover (8 ¾ x 11 ¼ inches, 368 pages) was published by Howell-North Books of Berkeley, California, dated 1964 and a First Edition with the same date on title & copyright pages. The book is bound in a light green cloth with black titles on cover and spine; it is protected by a battered pictorial dust jacket. This book, like many of this genre, is copiously illustrated with b&w photos within. Condition: This book is in very good condition although I cannot say the same for the dust jacket. The dust jacket shows lots of edge wear and is split in several places but still holding together. It is also darkened and shows what I imagine are tobacco smoke stains (but with no remnant smell, at least not to my nose) on the edges and spine. Things get better from there. The hard covers are clean and bright with some darkening just on a few spots, nothing too easy to see. Inside, a former owner has left his inked name and date on the first blank page but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages seem a bit toned to me but perhaps that is just the type of paper. In any event, they are not really soiled. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound although a bit canted to the right. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
