Hardcover. Zustand: Good+. First Edition. 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 245 pages; 1875 J. R. Osgood and Company. HC 1st edition in book form. Small 12mo format HC in original green cloth with borders and panels in blind and titles in gilt. Cloth has some patchy / blotchy silverfish predation; publisher's red edges tain to page block edges suffers also from some pitting. The binding is sound and the contents generally neat. A Missouri ownership inscription faintly in pencil to an endpage. Waring was instrumental in the engineering and drainage work during the creation of New York's Central Park. He was an avid horseman and at the outbreak of the Civil War assumed the rank of Major, rising to Colonel in command of the 4th Missouri Clavalry. The book recouns his time prior to the war but is largely given over to an account of his time in the Civil War with a special focus on his horses, Vix and Ruby. Sound decent copy with silverfish damage to the cloth. G+.
