In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First collected edition. Two works in one volume. 12mo. xxx, 336, [2]; 88pp., illustrated with full-page wood engravings (including a frontispiece for each work), and numerous in-text wood engravings. In the original quarter black calf gilt and paper-covered boards printed on both covers. Two early owner names in ink on front free endpaper. The leather spine back is moderately rubbed, corners gently bumped, scattered foxing mostly on the endleaves, modest paper remnants on both pastedowns likely from a contemporary custom-made paper dust wrapper (removed), a very good copy with the printed boards clean and bright. Woodbridge and Willard collaborated on many geography texts and both shared a passionate interest in educational reform and the education of women. Emma Willard was founder and principal of the first school in the United States to offer higher education to women, The Female Seminary at Troy, New York. The school survives to this day as the Emma Willard School, and has graduated a great number of distinguished women including Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lily Spencer-Churchill (Duchess of Marlborough), Jane Fonda, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. Willard was a strong advocate of science education for women, as noted by Margaret Rossiter: "Willard, her school, and others like it provided the essential starting point for women in science and the professions". (M.B. Ogilvie, *Women in Science* pp. 19-20). An attractive copy with the original printed boards well-preserved.
