Erstausgabe
No Binding. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Softcover. No binding or wraps of any sort. First page is the title page, which is detached from the text block. 43 pages, whip-stitched together, with only traces of stiff glue on the spine. It's not clear whether it was removed from a larger volume (I think not) or if it was never bound to begin with. The first numbered page is page 6, although it is the verso of the 2nd leaf, so it seems that a leaf is missing at the front (likely a half-title page). The sermon is entirely here. It is on Ecclesiastes 9:18, "Wisdom is better than weapons of War." Preached before the Artillery Company. For historical context, the Sugar Act was passed in 1764, the Stamp Act was passed in 1765, and the Townsend Act in 1767. The Boston Massacre would occur 3 years after the publication of this sermon, and the Tea Party in 1773. It was a long simmer before the Revolutionary War began in earnest. Rev. Daniel Shute was the Pastor of the Third Church in Hingham, MA. A scarce early American imprint. Please email with questions or to request photos. Measures about 5 x 7.5 inches. Protected in a mylar sleeve.
