Complete with colour and black and white plates, the first 400 pages are on farriery. 401-538 om Cattle and Sheep, and then a further pages 1-96 on the disease of Cattle Sheep and Pigs, with an index of six pages. Bound in black half leather with black cloth boards, dark red title piece. There is occasional soiling and foxing to pages and plates, never very serious, binding is slightly shaky in places but mainly sound.

Brown hardback cloth cover. Zustand: Fair. First edition thus. Worn condition. Cover loose, well worn, and faded. Undated but 1870 - 1890 period binding style, with raised spine bands, gilt titling. Marbled endpapers and trims. Illustrated with full page plates in colour and uncolured - 49 in total of which 20 are colured. Substantial volume, strongly bound, with the binding in clean and sound state - however the gilt to the raised panel cords and decorations has faded, although the title is bright.There is a little light damp marking down the cover leading edge, and there is a light mark to the rear cover. The hinge at the front endpaper has cracked but is tight and firm. Text and plates clean and tight. VG copy of a standard work of its day. The first section of this work examines the history of the horse (with an extensive exploration and comparison of horse breeds), the structure and anatomy of the horse, the practice of veterinary medicine, and a history of horse racing. This copy also contains information regarding the management of other farm animals, such as cattle, sheep, pigs, by J. I. Lupton. In a half polished calf binding with attractive marbled paper boards, endpapers and textblock. Containing copious illustrations throughout depicting attractive sporting scenes, the anatomy of the horse, and pictorial representations of the process of shoeing the animal, engraved from original drawings by Benjamin Herring.
