Er wechselte die Seiten hinüber zu den Alliierten, und England und Österreich garantierten ihm seine Herrschaft in Italien. Aber während der Hundert Tage schloss Murat sich wieder Kaiser Napoleon I. an, nachdem der Wiener Kongress ihm seine Staaten ni…cht sicherte. Bei seinem Versuch, Unteritalien und das wieder bourbonische Neapel zurückzuerobern, wurde er gefangen und am 13. Oktober 1815 auf Anordnung des siegreichen Königs Ferdinand I. standrechtlich in Pizzo (Kalabrien) erschossen. Colonel Macirone (1788-1846), Sohn eines ital. Kaufmanns aus Manchester, ist auch unter dem Namen "Count Maceroni" bekannt. Er war damals Murats Adjutant. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Frankreich wurde er wegen seiner illegalen Unterhandlungen für die Interessen Murats ins Gefängnis geworfen. ?
