Third edition (hardback). 8vo, xv, 593pp, 154pp appendix. Frontispiece and 7 plates (of 9 -plates 3 and 4 have not been bound in). Later half green morocco. Spine lightly rubbed, some light spotting of the contents, stain to the lower margin of the last few pages. Overall, this copy is in good plus condition.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First edition. Format, octavo, 218mm. Physical description, [3] iv - vii, [1] 2 - 492, [1] 2 - 96. Plates, 10, no's 1 - 9 are at the rear, no. 10 is opposite p.491. There is also an engraved portrait frontispiece of the author. Most of the plates are offset. All edges speckled red, the contents are occasionally very lightly spotted. Ink signature of C.E. Branfill at the head of the title page. Later nineteenth century half calf over marbled paper backed boards, sometime new endpapers. Overall, a near fine copy. Sir John Sinclair (1754 - 1835) was born at Caithness, in the north of Scotland. He studied at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oxford. He was created a baronet in 1786, and was the founder of the Board of Trade. For more details of Sinclair see - Inglis and Palgrave, Dictionary of Political Economy. Vol, III, p, 402/403. The ink signature of C. E. Branfill in ink at the head of the titlepage, is probably that of Champion Edward Branfill [IV] (1789-1844) was one of the Branfills at Upminster Hall, Essex.Champion Edward Branfill IV was a colourful and controversial figure, to say the least !; and was a liberal at a time when almost all other farmers were Tory. An attractive copy of the First American Edition of this agricultural treastise by a prominent Scots politician and agricultural writer. With two plates of a Hereford Cow and a Hereford Bull, and six additional plates. The front board of this mottled calf binding has been discreetly reattached; morocco title label to the spine. (Shaw and Shoemaker, 45720). Very Good binding.

First edition. viii, 492pp + 96 page appendix. Portrait frontis. (handsomely offset onto title page) 10 plates as called for, 9 of them at rear and the Agricultural Pyramid plate before the appendix. Handsomely bound in half brown calf gilt, raised bands, gilt decorations to compartments of spine. Extremities sl. rubbed but sound. Marbled boards and endpapers. Pages sl. browned o/w a lovely copy of a scarce item.

First American Edition. Octavo, viii, 424pp. Contemporary full calf, title in gilt over red morocco label. Both hinges showing wear, but stable. Occasional foxing and toning, solid text block. Includes frontispiece portrait and seven full page illustrated plates. (Shaw and Shoemaker, 45720) Signed on the front free endpaper and title page by Levi Lincoln, Jr. Levi Lincoln Jr. (1782-1868) was an American politician who served as the 13th Governor of Massachusetts from 1825 to 1834. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the son of Levi Lincoln Sr., a prominent political figure who served as Attorney General under President Thomas Jefferson. Lincoln Jr. graduated from Harvard College in 1802, studied law, and established a successful legal practice. A member of the Democratic-Republican Party, he also served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate. In addition to his tenure as governor, Lincoln Jr. was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and later served as the first Mayor of Worcester, contributing significantly to the development of the city.

Second Edition. Book measures 8 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches. Collation, viii,645,[1],pp, 9 full page plates, as index. Bound in half calf, calf corners, cloth boards, raised bands. Binding has been rebacked, retaining most of the original spine, some wear on edges and corners, some abrasion marks. Generally, binding in good solid condition. Internally, Royal Agriculture stamp on endpaper, period inscription from author on title page [ Sidney Smith Esq from the author 26th June, 1819, J. S. ] , wax seal on title page, damaged, but without loss of text. Pages and plates in good condition. Size: 8vo. Signed by Author.
