Es wird ein breites Spektrum an Drinks sowohl für Anfänger als auch für Profis vorgestellt, darunter viele die man so in den üblichen Cocktailbüchern nicht findet. Zutaten und Zubereitung sind schlüssig und einfach erklärt. Für Fortgeschrittene gibt es Rezepte zur Zubereitung von eigenen Zutaten wie Bitters, Espumas und Sirupe. Dazu gibt es Einblicke in das kreieren von eigenen Cocktails, geschichtliche Hintergründe, Auswahl der richtigen Gläser Herstellung und Entstehung der einzelnen Basis Spirituosen. Die Texte wirken schlüssig und ordentlich recherchiert. Klar, es ist vom Autorentrio Adam/Hasenbein/Heuser und allein das spricht für Qualität. Alles ist gut recherchiert, unterhaltsam aufbereitet und liefert die originalen Rezepturen. Es hilft nicht nur zum nachmixen, sondern animiert auch für Eigenkreationen. Für jeden der eine große Leidenschaft für Cocktails pflegt wärmstens zu empfehlen. Für mich ist es ein Standardwerk. Wer Charles Schumann's "Barbuch" und "American Bar" schätzt, wird von "Cocktailian" begeistert sein. wie sollte man ein handbuch für die bar am beswten rezensieren? Vielleicht gar keine so einfach zu beantwortende frage versuchen wir es einmal im prinzip des buches. vielleicht hat cocktailian nicht die unmenge an rezepturen, die andere handbücher liefern, aber das einfache aneinanderreihen von unzähligen rezepten steht hier auch gar nicht im mittelpunkt. systematisch geordnet erfährt der leser vieles über verschiedene mixgetränke - und zwar weitaus mehr als die pure rezeptur (interessant sind vor allem auch die netten zusatzgeschichten). was ist es also, dass dieses buch so bedeutend macht? es sind die vielen informationen rund um theorie und praxis des arbeitens hinter der bar mit getränken und allem was dazu gehört. neben einer einführung in kraäuter und obst (die auch köche sher gut bewerten) gibt es platz für die geschichte des alkohols, traditionellem und auch das neue gebiet des foodparings wird eingehend beleuchtet. meines erachtens nach, um ein abschließende fazit zu ziehen, wird cocktailian auf kurz oder lang charles schumanns "american bar" als standartwerk ablösen. und zwar völlig zu recht!
