List of contributors. Though there is various biophysical farming constraints in arid and semi arid regions of the country but these regions are also blessed with immense potential for production of quality fruits vegetables spices medicinal and aromatic plants. Vast land resource hardy agro biodiversity easy access of agricultural labourers better scope for utilization of solar and wind energy etc. are the other useful dimensions of these regions. However meagre efforts have been made to utilize untapped potential of these areas. Therefore an attempt was made to compile the work done so far on production technologies of different arid and semiarid fruit crops which can be grown in hot and cold arid regions of the country. Moreover very few fruit crops have been exploited commercially in these regions thus the semi arid corps (Chirounji Custard Apple Tamarind Guava etc.) fruit crops of cold arid region (sea buck thorn and temperate nuts) as well as some of the corps which are not popular as table fruits (Khejri Kumut Ker Kainth Lasoda etc.) have also been included. We hope that this book Advances in Arid Horticulture Vol II will serve as a reservoir for exploitation of useful information in future course of action by the scientist teachers students policy makers and entrepreneurs. 539 pp.

The major constraints in fruit cultivation is the lack of supply of good quality planting materials and lack of knowledge on the production technologies for quality planting materials by the nurserymen. To answer these problems, this volume on Fruit Seed Production has been prepared at appropriate time. This book briefly discusses on seed science and technological aspects like floral biology, maturity, collection and extraction of seeds, seed dormancy, methods of breaking seed dormancy, germination improvement, seed storage, nursery techniques and production of seedlings of tropical, sub tropical and temperature fruits. Macropropagation methods like cuttings, layering, grafting and budding and micropropagation techniques are also compiled. Emphasis has also been made in this book on horticultural aspects viz, nutritive value and uses, soil and climate, varieties, planting, manures and fertilizers, irrigation, intercultural operations, training and pruning, plant protection measures, harvesting, and yield of fruits and seeds.
