In its relatively brief (228 pages) , the author covers his time as an RAF Spitfire pilot from July 1944 to May 1945. He's included 16 pages of photos. As a member of 127 Squadron, Smith flew for the 2nd Tactical Air Force so a majority of his missions were air-to-ground sorties and as such, there is very little of the air-to-air action typical of most fighter pilot stories. He was able to gather many primary sources to ensure the accuracy and authenticity of his book: squadron reports, his pilot log book, personal notes from the time, a half-written novel penned a few years later, period letters from friends etc. ; 6.25 X 0.75 X 9.25 inches; 238 pages.
