For something like 30 years after this, however, the concept of stimulated emission was only used in theoretical discussions and rarely had any relevance for experimental work.The idea that a system of molecules or atoms could give rise to the amplification of a beam of light follows directly from Einstein's work, but equally well it is easy to show that amplification can only be obtained under a condition known as population inversion.
