Solly Zuckerman [1904-1993] began his scientific career at the London Zoological Society in 1928; when he inscribed this book in 1979 he was the Society's President. In between he was a war hero, working on myriad research projects, designing the Zuckerman helmet for the protection of civilians, and devising the plan which would disrupt German supply lines prior to the Normandy landings.
