He was Lord Mayor thrice, and on the council of Newcastle for forty years. Also inscribed and signed by Walter Edgar Young (mayor from 1941-1942) on the first free page. The opposite page is full of signatures from Newcastle friends of the previous owner of the book - and inscribe - Kenneth Stoloff. A small Australian flag is affixed here. The dustjacket has a clear plastic protective cover. The dustjacket itself has some wear to edges, seams and corners. It has storage and age and handling marks and rubbing. It is secure and sure. The boards are mild mannered, a little scruffy, but in general mild-mannered, healthy and steady. The contents have foxing to the early and later pages. The unique ephemera that accompanies the present copy came from the archives of the book's printer, Simmons Limited, and it provides valuable behind-the-scenes insights into how such a significant publishing venture, marking such an important occasion in the young history of Australia's European settlement, was accomplished.
