De zogenaamde Kopenhaagse versie van Het leven van Lutgard staat te boek als een van de vroegste taalmonumenten in het Middelnederlands. De 13e-eeuwse auteur heeft immers de vrij korte en nogal droge, oorspronkelijke Latijnse vita van de heilige Lutgard (1182-1246) omgewerkt tot een omvangrijk en zeer levendig heiligenleven in de volkstaal, en dat in zuiver jambische verzen. Jammer genoeg zijn slechts de laatste twee boeken van dit Middelnederlandse Leven van Lutgard overgeleverd, in totaal toch nog zo'n 20.000 verzen. Ter gelegenheid van haar 750ste sterfjaar - Lutgard overleed op 16 juni 1246 - is uit het Middelnederlandse heiligenleven een bloemlezing samengesteld bestaande uit 22 hoofdstukken, bijna een derde van de overgeleverde tekst.
