Frazier, Peter Dale Scott, Gabrielle Schang, and others, with a JFK assassination poster titled "Coup d'état in America" at centerfold.

First Edition. Original broadside, 28 x 21.5cm. Single sheet of white stock, offset printed in black, recto-only; light wear along upper edge, with brief (unknown) signature on verso; Near Fine. Broadside advertising a "Smoke-In" at the Capitol building in Madison. The Yippie-sponsored event was held in conjunction with a special state committee hearing on local marijuana laws; the smoke-in was organized in response to the committee's request ".that the community make it's [sic] feelings known." Date uncertain, but likely 1971 or later. [51270].

First Edition. Original illustrated poster, offset printed in black, red, and green on white stock, measuring 89.5cm x 58cm (35.25" x 22.75"). Clean and fresh; professionally conserved to remove old tape adhesions; a few small repairs at margins; Near Fine. Professionally mounted too archival canvas. Manifesto of the Youth International Party, founded by Abbie and Anita Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Paul Krassner, and Nancy Kurshan in the Hoffman's New York apartment on December 31, 1967. The poster is largely comprised of the Yippie flag - a pot leaf superimposed on a red star in a sea of black - with text printed in red and white. The "New Nation" statement in the manifesto was meant to embody the group's ethos for an entire generation. OCLC notes a single holding (UC Davis); we note one other held at OMCA.

A small but significant marker of the 1970 ?Yip Smoke In' , an important druggy countercultural protest that was but the first of many across the US. The strapline is obviously taken from The Beatles.

Provenance: Maggs pencil stock code from sale to The LSD Library. A large communist red star with a Kalashnikov and bayonet, criss-crossed with a dope pipe in a Native American Peace Pipe style occupies most of the recto. An even cruder drawing of a coffin is below. The verso is a tirade against the ?pigsystem' of the police (in ?angry' block capitals).
