First edition, 1909 with all photos, and 2 foldouts (on panorama and the other the map of… the author's journeys). Glue from sticker on spine for St. Paul Lodge of the Theosophical Society, which stamp is on fep. Glue probably can be removed. Brown endpapers are roughly removed from both front and back. Rear hinge cracked, front hinge starting. No repairs have been attempted. Else a sound copy, Cover and spine are clear and clean (except for the glue). Small tear at head.Very interesting 3x5" "Publisher's Note" in front: "Three Years in Tibet Publisher's Note: Purchasers are requested to see that they receive with the book the large presentation plate of Lhasa". (No sign of the plate). Slightly musty scent. First edition of a narrative of travels in Tibet between 1897 and 1903 by a Japanese monk. It was originally published in a Japanese newspaper. This was the first visit to Lhasa by an outsider since the time of Huc and Gabet, more than 50 years earlier. The Shramana Ekai Kamaguchi travelled indisquise and mainly by foot through large parts of Tibet.
