This book of retellings of Korean folk tales was, in part, an effort to familiarize America with their Korean allies… as the fight against Communism wore on in the Cold War. Newbery Medal-winning author Jewett was primarily known for her interpretations of Arthurian tales, and she turned her pen to the stories of the Korean people "with whom we have made common cause now for so long." Illustrator Yashima worked for the Office of War Information and later the Office of Strategic Services during World War II, producing anti-military propaganda to be dropped over Japan. This work occupies the intersection of his children's books and his political activism. 8'' x 5.25''. Original yellow publisher's cloth binding with orange stamped titles and designs.
