Madrid: Fernando Debás, [1880].- 14 x 10 cm. sobre soporte de 16,3 cm. x 10,8 cm.; color sepia semi-brillo.- La reina sentada sostiene a su primogénita en brazos que lleva un largo faldón colgante hasta el suelo, mientras que el rey, de pie y con una pierna cruzada sobre la otra en posición relajada, mira a la pequeña muy complacido y viste uniforme. El nombre del fotógrafo se halla grabado en el ángulo izquierdo inferior. Formato ovalado difuminando la parte inferior del busto. Al pie del soporte aparece el nombre, anagrama y señas del estudio fotográfico madrileño. La foto está impecable, pero ha sido recortada por su soporte en todos sus márgenes para adaptarla probablemente al espacio de un portarretratos, lo cual afecta mínimamente algún ángulo, pero en absoluto al retrato ovalado propiamente dicho. Es probable que la intención fuese relizar una foto con aire más informal. Al pie del soporte nombre y anagrama del estudio fotográfico madrileño. En folio menor (259 x 195)mm. xxxii-630 pp. Encuadernación en holandesa piel oliva del siglo XIX, lomera ricamente decorada con adornos dorados. Esta historia, de acuerdo con la portada de la edición de Toledo de 1595, fue escrita por Juan Núñez de Villasán, Oficial de León, Condestable de Castilla y favorito de Enrique II, pero algunas autoridades y estudios recientes consideran que realmente fue sólo el copista. La obra goza fama de ser una simple pero interesante narración tomando la información de las autoridades más competentes de su tiempo. El volumen pertenece a la Colección de Crónicas y memorias de los Reyes de Castilla publicada por Sancha entre los años 1779 y 1787 en 7 volúmenes, que se venden por separado. Buen ejemplar impreso sobre buen papel, vestido con una atractiva encuadernación artística del siglo diecinueve. Es libro apreciado. 259x195mm. (10¼x7¾").

The blind stamped panels are decorated with large, gilt, oval ornament in the centre, and ruled with an inner floral and geometric blind frame and a thin gilt frame. Spine with five raised bands, four of the compartments are richly gilt with floral ornamentation, and two are lettered in gilt. Inner edges of the panels and the edges of the book are also gilt. Libro, de la Monteria is the first Spanish book on hunting, and also the earliest about hunting in the Americas. The core of the text was written in the 14th century by the commission of Alfonso XI of Castile (1310-1350). The present book is the first printed edition of it, which is considerably enlarged by the editor Gonzalo Argote de Molina (1548-1596), the Spanish humanist writer and historian. Argote de Molina added the section "Discurso" to the book, which - among other parts - contains a pastoral eclogue by Luys Gomez de Tapia, chapters on hunting elephants in India and Africa and bison in Poland. It also includes three chapters on hunting in the New World, in Peru (Chaco; chapter XXXV.), Mexico (Oxio; chapter XXXVI.) and the "Indias Ocidentales", the West Indies (Santo Domingo, Cuba, Tierra Firme and New Spain; chapter XXXVII.). These chapters describe the hunting of some of the curious animals of the Americas, like guanaco, vicunas and ostrich (rhea) in Peru, leopard or puma, and wild boar in Mexico, and wild bull in Venezuela and Cuba. Three woodcut illustrations are representing such huntings. The thirty-five illustrations (eighteen different images, some recurring), which are the first collection of hunting scenes published in Spain, were created by Juan de Arfe y Villafane (1535-1603) or Mateo Pérez de Alesio (1547-1628) [Santonocito, 2016. pp. 240-241.]. The image of the bullfight (Discurso f. 9v [i.e. 14v]) is considered to be the first printed representation of the noble sport.
