Pavarotti's First Performances in Operatic Roles. Index. Sticker residue to DJ. Preface by William Wright. Preface by Luciano Pavarotti. One of the premier tenors of his time--one of the most celebrated, best-loved, and extraordinary artists--takes us on a behind-the-scenes tours of his most notable performances, including the acclaimed Three Tenors. Luciano Pavarotti OMRI (12 October 1935 6 September 2007) was an Italian operatic tenor who during the late part of his career crossed over into popular music, eventually becoming one of the most acclaimed tenors of all time. He made numerous recordings of complete operas and individual arias, gaining worldwide fame for his tone, and gaining the nickname "King of the High Cs". As one of the Three Tenors, who performed their first concert during the 1990 FIFA World Cup before a global audience, Pavarotti became well known for his televised concerts and media appearances. From the beginning of his professional career as a tenor in 1961 in Italy to his final performance of "Nessun dorma" at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Pavarotti was at his best in bel canto operas, pre-Aida Verdi roles, and Puccini works such as La bohème, Tosca, Turandot and Madama Butterfly. He sold over 100 million records, and the first Three Tenors recording was the best-selling classical album of all time. Pavarotti was noted for his charity work on behalf of refugees and the Red Cross, amongst others. He was appointed a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 1988, Luciano Pavarotti, the world-famous tenor, tells his story. "I want to tell the people who are interested in me," says Pavarotti in his preface, "about all of the fun and excitement I have had. I have tried to explain how I feel about the things that are important to me and to pass on whatever wisdom I have gained as an artist and as a human being." Derived from a Publishers Weekly article: Miami Beach officials reroute air traffic to keep noise from interfering with a Pavarotti outdoor concert; in London, the Prince and Princess of Wales, John Major and scores of others endure a downpour without umbrellas (which are kept furled so as not to block anybody's view of the stage) at a Pavarotti park performance. That's his world. The tenor, again writing with Wright, his coauthor on Pavarotti: My Story, attempts in these pages to project the image of a simple man who disdains being set apart. And he pulls it off. He further disarms us by not dodging the scandals of recent years: his lip-synching rock concert; being booed at La Scala. The book lets us catch up on Pavarotti's doings of the last 15 years, for example, the international vocal competition he holds in Philadelphia, the horse show he inaugurated in Italy, his tours, family, health. Readers will find that Pavarotti's exuberance more than compensates for any lagging stretches. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated]. Robert Cahen (Author photograph) (illustrator).…
