"The sixth, edition, with considerable improvements" (title-page). 12mo, half-leather binding with marbled sides, pp viii, 282, v, i. 38 copperplate engraved plates called for are present (Part I: 10 tables I to X with 10 plates A to K; Part II: plates 1 to 18, Table I is present but not included in the 'Directions List'), each plate engraved with many heraldic devices etc., "containing upwards of a thousand examples". The first page of the main text has a substantial chip (3cm x 1.5cm) across the top corner, with loss of text. The central area of both upper and lower boards are rubbed. Small area of leather restoration to top of spine. New endpapers. Very good condition. An important guide to heraldry, beautifully engraved with hundreds of examples, with comprehensive information on the composition and application of each. Hugh Clark (1745 - 1822) was a heraldic engraver, a printmaker and a poet (British Museum). An attractive copy of a fascinating book.
