Woven silk in two colours showing the bombing of the church in Dunkirk, 115 x 70 mm. From 1915, the port of Dunkirk, used extensively by British forces, experienced severe bombardment from heavy shells fired from Koekelare, around 30 miles away.

Postcard, 90 x 140 mm. Although printed in Nantes, all other identifying text on the card has been erased by the sender or the censor. A poignant message to his mother: "on active service. Dear Ma. Just a line to let you know that I have arrived safe in France. Yours Charlie xxx".

An exceptionally bright and handsome example of this "War Savings Stamps" all-text poster, printed in black letters within a blue borders on white stock. A second, smaller blue margin near the bottom, bearing the small oval "Torch of Liberty" logo at upper left corner, notes: "W.S.S. / War Savings Stamps / Issued by the / United States / Government." The War Savings Stamps program was a United States Treasury Department patriotic endeavor to raise funds during World War One and Two by selling interest-earning ten and twenty-five cent stamps primarily to school children. A superb copy, bearing none of the folds and edge tears usually found on these -- a rare survivor in near pristine condition.…

Tight and attractive probable sole edition of this memorial yearbook of World War I veterans from Jo Daviess county in northwestern Illinois. Of special interest is a sharp WW1-era real photo postcard tipped to front flyleaf showing an unidentified young man in suit and overcoat and distinctive checkered cap standing in the snow -- and on page 189 the very same young man in the same outfit stands in a large group photo captioned "Jo Daviess County Boys Who Departed For Camp Grant February 27, 1918." Unique copy of a volume exceptionally difficult to find in acceptable condition -- scotch-taped hinges and duck-taped spine are the norm. This is a scarce clean, tight-hinged copy with intriguing addition from the period.…

After a course at No. 5 Lancaster Finishing School, RAF Syerston Tony Iveson went to join No. 617 Squadron RAF the Dam Busters in July 1944 as a Flight Lieutenant. Promoted to Squadron Leader in October 1944, he took part in some 27 operations, including the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross in March 1945 for keeping his bomber airborne in January 1945 and landing it in Shetland after half the crew had bailed out over Bergen. Small attractive photograph album with 24 pages containing 92 small format photographs (55mm x 40mm) mostly taken in Alexandria, Cairo, Egypt, during the First World War. Circa 1916; no date given. Featuring the Army Veterinary Corps, most of the captions are in a small neat hand, with several named men: Sgt. Ronald (with monkey) Sgt. Long, and QMS Swanson; which opens the door for further research. By contrast the final five pages are personal in nature, featuring family group photographs, and comrades relaxing in a very British-looking setting.
