Light toning, negligible light soiling, a few horizontal fold lines to each document, docket in small early hand to verso of final leaf. $400. * Born in Litchfield, Woodruff was a judge on the Litchfield County Court for over ten years, in addition to serving as a major general of the state militia and holding other municipal appointments. He "felt deeply the importance of having a reputable court" and discharged his duties on the court with gravitas and distinction (Kilbourn). His sons George C. and Lewis B. Woodruff became prominent Litchfield attorneys. These certificates document his appointments as associate judge and commissioner of the court in 1829, 1835, 1836 and 1839. They are signed by the respective governors of Connecticut at the time, Gideon Tomlinson (1829), Henry W. Edwards (1835 and 1836) and William W. Ellsworth (1839).
