Gertrud Caspari (1873-1948) is considered one of the most important German children's book illustrators of the 20th century, with illustrations mainly in lithography. Her style incorporated bright flat colors, and she was instrumental in the design of the books as well, with pages made for child-friendly handling. Adolf Holst (1867-1945) was an editor and children's author with over 200 children's picture books, illustrated poetry collections, and fairy tale series.
