Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st ed Dutton 1906. External staining, fading, a little fraying to extremities. Early pages show a little marginal dampstain at top hinge area. Otherwise pages yellowed with an occasional minor blemish. Binding has incipient cracking, remains reasonably firm.

8vo, pp. xiv, 268; frontispiece, 16 plates, preliminaries lightly foxed and bottom corners clipped on the first 2 leaves; extremities a bit rubbed with some dampstaining to spine ends, else good in original red cloth with decorative color-illustrated upper cover and gilt lettering on spine.

First Edition. First edition. INSCRIBED by author on first free endpaper, "P. H. Mayo, Esq./ Best wishes of The Author: Winthrop E. Scarritt, Hot Springs. Va. Aug. 1906." Recipient's bookplate on front pastedown. Illustrated with 16 black-and-white photographs. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering on front and spine and colored drawing of a motor car on a tree-lined road pasted to front cover (presumably picturing a road near Veudreuve, as it appears to resemble the frontis photo). Spine sunned but readable, a few ink marks to spine and white call letters (though no other evidence of library markings), otherwise would be near fine. Signed.…
